Paul McCloskey makes his return to Belfast’s Kings Hall tonight, where he continues his march back towards title contention against faded veteran and former title WBO champion DeMarcus ‘Chop Chop’ Corley.
I use the word faded as it’s an accurate term to describe the 37 year old Corley. Past his best; certainly, but not ‘gone’ or ‘shot’, just faded. His recent record doesn’t glisten, but it also has a tendency mislead. While Corley has lost more than he’s won since dropping his title to Zab Judah back in 2003, he’s also the b-side in pretty much every fight he takes these days and generally does better than expected.
Corley brings huge experience to this fight having fought everybody at light welterweight at one point of another. There have been occasions where he’s been unlucky with the judges, times when he was flat out robbed, and others where he was simply bested by a better fighter, but it’s a testament to his character that he’s maintained a winners mentality through it all. He will go into this fight like he does every other; expecting to upset the applecart. Continue Reading »
This is the first WWE PPV I passed on purchasing since last year’s Bragging Rights and before then, I probably got all of them for the prior calendar year. By the looks of it, if I wanted to simply watch a good wrestling show, I might’ve missed a good one. I still couldn’t rationalize a purchase based on WWE TV since WrestleMania.
John Cena and Christian both won the straps. Cena pinned The Miz in the steel cage match. R-Truth interfered and took out Morrison. Christian beat Alberto Del Rio as Edge drove up in one of Del Rio’s cars to distract him, allowing Christian to win the match.
In the other matches:
Randy Orton beat CM Punk in a Last Man Standing Match.
Kofi Kingston beat Sheamus in a Tables Match.
Michael Cole and Jack Swagger beat Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler in a Country Whipping Match.
Rey Mysterio beat Cody Rhodes in a Falls Count Anywhere Match after blowing green mist.
Layla beat Michelle McCool in a Loser Leaves Town match. Kharma came in at the end of the match.
The Big Show and Kane beat Wade Barrett and Ezekiel Jackson in a Lumberjack Match.
(And yes, it looks like Thiago Alves made weight.)
1. Georges St Pierre (170) vs. Josh Koscheck (169)
2. Sean McCorkle (264) vs. Stefan Struve (253)
3. Mac Danzig (156) vs. Joe Stevenson (155.5)
4. Thiago Alves (171) vs. John Howard (171)
5. Jim Miller (155) vs. Charles Oliveira (153.5)
6. Joe Doerksen (185.5) vs. Dan Miller (184.5)
7. Mark Bocek (155.5) vs. Dustin Hazelett (155)
8. Jesse Bongfeldt (185.5) vs. Rafael Natal (185)
9. Sean Pierson (170.5) vs. Matthew Riddle (170.5)
10. Ricardo Almeida (170.5) vs. T.J. Grant (170)
11. Pat Audinwood (156) vs. John Makdessi (155)
If you missed UFC 123, you missed this fantastic hype video for the Georges St. Pierre vs. Josh Koscheck fight. I don’t remember the UFC doing things like this before, but it definitely needs to be seen.
April 18th is the night when the all steel cage PPV returns to TNA as the company rolls into St. Louis with high expectations and leaves in a puddle of their own blood. This Lockdown is a completely different experience from those in the past. For the first time, a new steel cage will be used (which I really like). Lockdown has traditionally been one of the strongest TNA PPVs of the year and despite the poor buildup, it could be again this year.
CAGE MATCH: LETHAL LOCKDOWN ADVANTAGE
Rob Van Dam vs. James Storm of Beer Money
As a buildup to the “Harbinger of Hell,” a member of both Team Hogan and Team Flair will battle it out for the advantage. This all stems from a match a few weeks ago that resulted in Storm smashing a beer bottle on the head of RVD. The intelligent decision would have Storm somehow win to give Team Flair the advantage forcing Team Hogan to fight against the odds, and that is what I am going with.
CAGE MATCH
The MotorCity Machine Guns vs Brian Kendrick & Homicide
Why the hell is this match even on the card. Traditionally Lockdown would feature an Xscape Match pitting multiple X Division guys against each other. I see no storyline reason this match is even on here. The Machine Guns has no history with either Kendrick or Homicide and what makes it worse is that the Notorious 187 has been mostly featured on Xplosion. The only thing I can see here is TNA continue to build up the Machine Guns while teasing more of a Matt Morgan feud with the boys from Detroit or maybe continue something with Homicide.
