UFC 192 Preview – Cormier Vs Gustafsson

UFC 192 preview

Will it be Cormier or Gustafsson? Check out our UFC 192 preview.

As of this writing, it was learned that the Johny Hendricks and Tyron Woodley fight was off because of weight cutting issues. I’m not going to say who had weight cutting issues, but you can probably figure it out.

All joking aside, if Hendricks was having issues with his kidneys, it’s a serious situation and one that hopefully isn’t chronic. Weight cutting is no joke.

Because the Hendricks/Woodley fight is now off, we’re only picking four fights for this one.

In addition to the FGB crew, included in our picks are John LaRocca, president of Premier Wrestling, the hardest working woman in MMA, Heidi Fang who is now working for Fox Sports, and our jiu-jitsu expert, Alex Goff.

Here’s how we’re doing so far:

Alan: 46-20
John: 44-22
Jim: 44-22
Duan: 41-25
Heidi: 40-26
Alex: 39-27
GG: 39-27

Daniel Cormier Vs Alexander Gustafsson

Duan: Daniel Cormier by 2nd round TKO
Cornier now has the confidence of being champion – plus, he just battered the guy who just battered Gustafsson. There’s no question he’s got a huge psychological edge going into this one. Gustafsson’s size and reach are a nuisance to most, but I don’t think they will bother DC as much as they do other opponents because Daniel is already used to giving up those advantages in every fight he’s in. It’s nothing new for him to deal with. Cormier pushes the pace early and ragdolls the still slightly shellshocked Swede all over the place.

Alan: Daniel Cormier by decision
Cormier will take it via the grindiest of grindy decisions. He’s going to wear on Alex for five rounds and slowly dominate.

GG: Daniel Cormier by decision
Gustafsson was more successful against Jon Jones than Cormier was. Even in losing, he gave Jones his toughest fight to date. And after watching Jones have his way with Cormier earlier this year, you have to believe that Gustafsson can take some of what he saw in that fight, using his length to keep Cormier away, to help him here. But he’s clearly not the wrestler that Jones is and I think that’s the difference. One thing that’s hard to predict is that Cormier has his eyes clearly set on Jon Jones and you’d hope that he doesn’t overlook Gustafsson. I think Cormier grinds his way to a victory going the long route, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him do well with his hands, Smokin’ Joe Frazier style.

John: Daniel Cormier
Heidi: Daniel Cormier
Alex: Daniel Cormier
