This is Cotto’s attempt to move up to 154 after losing two brutal fights. Freddie Roach said that Foreman would win every round. It’s also held at the new Yankee Stadium, which makes it a pretty big event.
Because Emanuel Steward is in Cotto’s corner tonight, Roy Jones Jr. is doing the broadcast with Jim Lampley and Max Kellerman.
In the first fight on the HBO broadcast, Vanes Martirosyan beat Joe Greene by unanimous decision.
Miguel Cotto vs. Yuri Foreman
Just by looks alone, Cotto looks a little soft and kind of small at the new weight.
Strong round for Cotto to start. He landed a few left jabs that sent Foreman backwards. Also threw a strong straight right. Foreman didn’t really land anything special.
Round 2 was a pretty good round, even though no big punches were landed. Cotto nailed Foreman flush with a jab and a straight right. The way Foreman reacts to getting hit isn’t good for him. Foreman landed a couple shots as well.
This was a closer round, but probably still Cotto’s round. Foreman landed a nice straight right, but also lost his mouth piece. Cotto is just busier and his shots that land are more impressive than Foreman’s. Steward thinks Foreman might’ve won it.
I thought this was Foreman’s best round. He’s moving really well right now. His best punch right now is a lead straight right off a faint. He landed a couple to Cotto. When Cotto is caught with that shot, he looks slow.
Because of my son’s birthday party, I missed the first two fights.
According to SC at Bad Left Hook, former Contender fighter Alfonso Gomez beat Jesus Soto Karass in a fight that was stopped before the end of the sixth round on a cut.
Soto Karass lost two points to low blows in the third and fourth rounds, and it wound up costing him what would have been a draw. Gomez won on scores of 58-54, 57-55 and 57-55. Bad Left Hook had it 57-55 for Gomez at the time of the stoppage.
In the second fight, Yuri Foreman won a decision over Daniel Santos after knocking him down in the 12th, which was his second knockdown of the fight.
