WWE Extreme Rules Live Coverage: The Shield Vs. Evolution

Extreme Rules live coverage

Via WWE.com

The first two post-WrestleMania Raws made the product feel fresh. There were new programs starting and new guys being featured. However, the last two Raws were stale and took a lot of wind out of the sail. But, they can get a lot of momentum back with a great show tonight.

I missed the pre-show match, but it sounds like the WeeLC match was a whole lot of fun and nonsense.

Battleground Preview – Randy Orton Vs. Daniel Bryan

Battleground preview

WWE is in a weird spot. On one hand, with John Cena’s injury, Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton have been able to grab the top two spots in the company. In a sense, while I personally enjoy John Cena, it’s a breath of fresh air to see other guys in that top spot. On the other hand, television ratings, thanks in due part to the NFL being back on Monday nights, are way, way down. PPV buyrates for SummerSlam were also way down from the previous year.

They seem to have a long term vision, but you have to wonder if being patient is the right thing or not. Battleground is now two PPVs in a row that aren’t good on paper. And that’s not what you want at this point.

SummerSlam Play By Play – John Cena Vs. Daniel Bryan

SummerSlam play by play

It’s WWE’s biggest show of the summer. As we’ve said for the last week of previews and podcasts, it’s a two match show. If the two main event matches deliver, the show should be good. But I hope there’s a match on what looks like a lacking undercard, that stands out big-time.

1. Dean Ambrose vs. Rob Van Dam

This is the pre-show match.

RVD was on the top rope, ready to give him the 5 star frog splash and the Shield came down to ringside. Then, Mark Henry and the Big Show came down. RVD hung Ambrose over the dasher boards on the outside and jumped from the apron and hit a flying wheel kick.

RVD hit the 5 star and the Shield ran in for the DQ. Big Show and Mark Henry were too slow. No word on whether there’s going to be a tag match for the titles later in the show.

Winner: Rob Van Dam by DQ

The Miz came out to announce the top two matches as if anyone in the arena didn’t know what they were. Fandango and Summer Rae came out so Miz could do his “Really?” gimmick.

JoJo from Total Divas performed a very slow and dramatic version of the National Anthem. Continue reading

The Raw Rerun (3 Weeks Until SummerSlam)

Daniel Bryan and Vince McMahon

Raw was taped last week, but if you didn’t know, you couldn’t tell. The show was more boring than it has been and wasn’t very eventful, but the main stuff (Daniel Bryan, John Cena, Vince McMahon) was okay. It didn’t really progress much though.

Daniel Bryan and Vince McMahon are a fine tandem.

Raw opened with Vince McMahon and Brad Maddox (who are a fine tandem as well) coming down the aisle so that Vince could berate Maddox for letting John Cena choose Daniel Bryan.

In most cases, I should hate something like this because Vince buried Bryan, but Bryan’s character is very much the underdog who wins, so it was fine here. Vince told Bryan that the reason Cena picked him is because he could easily beat him. Bryan told Vince that he had the listen to the WWE Universe who all chanted, “Yes” when he asked them if they wanted a new WWE Champion. Continue reading

– How Dolph and Alberto trying to steal the show, but the finish stopped them from doing so
– Cena’s stupid STFU finisher
– Mark Henry’s great one month run
