Fight Camp 360 Pacquiao Vs. Mosley Episode 2 Recap

Published by GG under Boxing,Fight Camp 360,TV Shows

James Brown tells us that the guys are going back home to train, after the media whirlwind from episode one.

In an interesting twist, it seems that they’re trying to show that Manny is such a star in the Phillipines, has his own TV show about himself starring himself, while Mosley is working hard to get that hunger back. It’s the Rocky III story, however, I think they told it before on a 24/7.

A major theme so far is that Pacquiao is super busy and he has a hard time being on time and makes a lot of people wait for him, including Freddie Roach. Roach says he’s not a father, but Manny’s the closest thing he has to a son. He says they’d die for each other.

I really enjoy the scenes so far with Shane and his son because the kid looks like a spitting image of him, but does look like his mother too. He trains with the camp and helps in the training.

Manny is shown as a man of his people, while Mosley says that he doesn’t need the accolades in comparison. His son truly believes in his dad, which is great to see. You can see that he idolizes him.

Roach tells this great story about Manny’s childhood friend Buboy who is also his trainer. Roach said the only time he was frustrated with Buboy was in the fight against Miguel Cotto when the game plan was to stay off the ropes, but Manny decided to prove his corner wrong that he could fight off the ropes against him. Buboy started crying because Manny wouldn’t stay off the ropes and Roach had to manage both Manny and Buboy at the same time.

I’m not sure if this was intended or not, but in the last training segment, Manny looked like a killer and they only showed Mosley doing light stuff, which kind of showed him a bit over the hill.

All in all, this was a pretty wasteful episode of the show. They have yet to hit on the fact of why we should shell out $60 for the fight. The pieces are there. Pacquiao is the biggest start in boxing. Mosley has a great story of redemption. But they have yet to put it together. I’ll have the recap to the third episode up tonight and the fourth tomorrow.

Fight Camp 360 Pacquiao Vs. Mosley Episode 1 Recap

Published by GG under Boxing,Fight Camp 360,TV Shows

It is officially fight week. Over the next week, I’ll have recaps of all the Fight Camp 360 episodes and then on Saturday night, I’ll have play by play of the big fight.

This episode is several weeks old, but with the schedule not consistent, I wasn’t really sure when these things were on. Here’s episode one:

Bob Arum is trying to sell that Pacquiao can’t fight defensive, so he’s playing right into Mosley’s hands and it should be a hellacious fight. Also, Mosley is playing the undercard/old man card.

At a photo shoot for fight promotion, they show Manny as a bit of a diva. He shows up late (Manny-time) and doesn’t want to be sprayed in the face with water because he always gets sick when he is sprayed, sort of like how he loses power when he gets blood drawn. Come on Pac-man.

At a Q&A event, a little girl asks Manny about his haircut and if it’s Justin Bieber-like. He says no, it’s Bruce Lee-like since Bruce Lee is his idol. Mosley and Pacquiao are both shown as “good guys” and there’s no real heel in the fight, though Mosley says that they both want to knock each other out.

Mosley talks a bit about his competitiveness and says he told his mother at 10 years old that he was going to be the world champion. They also show his new girlfriend. Yikes, they need to show this woman more and more.

Holy crap, someone was in a car accident while trying to take a picture of Manny while walking the streets, heading over to meet President Obama. Manny says Obama is rooting for him.

Finally, we get to see some training footage. I am amazed every time I see Manny’s hand speed. Mosley looks good too, but for whatever reason, all I can see out of Mosley is how he aged right before my eyes in that Floyd Mayweather fight. I’m not sure how I’m going to be able to unsee that.

For an introductory episode, they didn’t really do much other than show how much of a superstar Manny Pacquiao is, which is fine. He’s selling the fight. But it went really heavy on stuff that wasn’t important. I’m not sure how Mosley doesn’t get completely outshadowed in the build-up because you can only show the Antonio Margarito stuff so many times. Pacquiao has so much more impressive footage than Mosley does in the past few years.

That being said, Pacquiao is an absolute superstar and they need to continue to build him up that way. I just hope they figure out how to make Mosley more of an opponent in the eyes of the casual fans.

Fight Camp 360: Inside The Super Six World Boxing Classic – Episode 8

Published by GG under Boxing,Fight Camp 360,TV Shows

The Super Six is quite different from the last time Fight Camp aired. Only Kessler was hurt, but now, Andre Dirrell is out of the tournament because of head trauma issues. It will be interesting to see how Showtime tells the story.

Seven weeks out before Dirrell vs. Ward, there’s clips of Dirrell and one of his trainers talking about why they’re not training yet. It very much looks like it’s a money thing rather than an injury thing.

Dan Goossen says that Kessler has double vision and he can’t fight and there’s nothing he can do about that. But then he can drive his car. Kessler’s promoter Kalle Sauerland says Kessler had no motive, but I’m not sure if he was being facetious or not.

Glen Johnson is going down in weight and will be replacing Kessler so that Green has a fight. Johnson says to come in the tournament at this stage and win it would be a great story.

Sauerland also promotes Abraham and says with all of Froch’s postponements, Abraham is frustrated because he’s used to fighting more.

Glen Johnson’s wife mentions the weight cut and calls it a challenge since Johnson hasn’t fought at 168 in over 10 years. Green says he never in a million years thought he’d have to fight Glen. He says as a younger fighter, he helped Glen by sparring for the Roy Jones Jr. fight. He said that back then, Roy got the best of him and knows that he has to knock him out in order to advance.

Froch said he pulled out of the early October date because he hurt his back and has fought hurt too many times and wouldn’t do it. Froch and Sauerland were arguing with each other over the Kessler/Froch decision, mostly because Abraham doesn’t speak English well enough and he picked up his slack. Unfortunately for us, Sauerland and Froch won’t fight.

Abraham thinks Dirrell not fighting is an excuse. Goossen says Ward was ok with fighting Dirrell. Dirrell’s handlers are making him look badly with how defensive they are, especially when his trainer says that if it wasn’t Dirrell, he’d probably try to rush him back to the ring. But Dirrell’s family so they’re taking it seriously. Some dudes should just stay away from the microphone.

Ward says he wants to finish what he started, which is to win the Super Six.

Fight Camp 360: Inside The Super Six World Boxing Classic – Episode 7

Published by GG under Boxing,Fight Camp 360,TV Shows

If you want to watch this episode online, Duan posted it last week.

The show starts with footage from two months ago, with Allan Green landing in Oakland for his fight against Andre Ward. Green said that the pressure was all on Ward and he’d win. We know that didn’t end up being the case.

Ward called Green a bully and he got more upset than you’d think a pro boxer would get based on that word. Gray Maynard would’ve endorsed it.

There was a great shot of a Ward fan booing when Green came out but Green’s mom was right in front of him and she told him so.

Ward’s corner told Ward that Green looked bone dry as if to say that he cut a lot of weight.

Green’s mother, his brother, and his corner was yelling at him to do something all fight long. He never did. After the fight, he told Ward that he had to go up to 175 as if to say that the 168 weight cut was too tough.

Green said he could see everything, but his body couldn’t respond. He said his legs were weak. His mother was such a positive person, during and after the fight.

Green had to leave his hotel at 4AM. Jeez.

The more they show of Carl Froch’s girlfriend, the better. Or is she wifey? I forget. We’re back in Nottingham, England. They just had a son, baby Rocco.

He says that he’s not bitter about losing to Kessler at all and he has the opportunity to make things right.

Kessler and Abraham are talking about cars. Abraham says his new Ferrari goes 0-60 in just over three seconds. He doesn’t buy watches or jewelry, but driving a fast car to training relaxes him.

Andre Dirrell and his fiance were married in late April and he and his new wife were watching their wedding video and Dirrell was a dancing fool. He had a photo of he and Ward from when they were in their teens. Dirrell had a crazy afro. Ward said Dirrell was 125 and he was 165, but soon enough, Dirrell was at his weight.

Dirrell was doing some crazy jumps with his jump rope. He was triple jumping.

They showed footage of Kessler pulling out of the tournament. He says it will take about 9 months to be 100%.

Abraham vs. Froch is going to be a fantastic fight. And it’s only three weeks away.

Fight Camp 360: Inside The Super Six World Boxing Classic – Episode 6

Published by GG under Boxing,Fight Camp 360,TV Shows

The latest episode of Fight Camp 360 starts with the promoters arguing yet again and cracking on each other. You can tell they’re yapping it up for the camera a bit, but also, I imagine they do take shots at each other.

The focus goes to the lead-up to what became the best fight in the Super Six, Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler.

Carl Froch’s father and brother are both a part of Team Froch. Carl says his dad was who introduced him to the sport. His dad was ripped as a young man. Both camps joked that the other was scared.

Kessler said he released his coach because they didn’t have a plan B versus Andre Ward. He was frustrated, but his coach shouldn’t have been frustrated and should’ve told him what to do.

Wow, Kessler’s sister looked like a drag queen.

There’s a spot in the fight where Froch tells his corner that he feels tired. Before the 11th round, Kessler’s corner told him that he was behind. But Froch’s promoter tells his girlfriend that he gave away a few rounds early and it’s close.

Both sides thought they won the fight, but Froch thought the judges would take the title off him before the scores were read. Froch’s corner told him that if he was busier, he’d have won the fight. Froch tells his girlfriend that he didn’t have the extra drive to get him out of there.

At the press conference, Froch says that he wasn’t at his best and that Kessler was. He also says that if they make him fight Arthur Abraham in Germany, he’s pulling out of the tournament.

The doctor didn’t give Froch any anesthetic for the small stitches over his left eye and he said it was like Rambo.

Andre Ward says he enjoys broadcasting and so his smile looks better on TV, he says he’s getting his teeth fixed. He did a spot on ESPN 2 with Brian Kenny.

Allan Green is a comic book fan. Who knew? Allan Green says he’s avoided because of his style, and that’s why he hasn’t received a title shot until now. Green says Kessler couldn’t understand Ward’s jive, but he can because he speaks it very well.

They fight this weekend and we’ll have a recap Saturday night.
