Pacquiao/Cotto 24/7 – Episode 4

Published by GG under 24/7, Boxing, TV Shows

It’s the go home show for 24/7. Their last shot to sell us on this fight. Well, not me since I was sold when it was signed. But to the rest of the general population who weren’t had at hello.

Ok, I think the show has peaked. Freddie Roach meets up with Sylvester Stallone and Sly tells him that it’s all about the trainer and that he won’t want to be Cotto’s insurance agent. Mickey Rourke also meets up with Fredrick and it’s not quite as cool, but it’s ok. Roach shows him the international cover of Time Magazine which features Manny on the cover.

Wayne Newton, looking very Planet of the Apes-ish, talks about Vegas. Carrot Top, looking very Rocky Dennis-ish, says the same thing. And then some magician talked as well.

Cut-man Joe Chavez is now in Cotto’s corner but was once in Manny’s corner. Team Cotto thinks that is to their advantage.

They still have spit buckets? Why did I not know this?

Pacquiao/Cotto 24/7 – Episode 3

Published by GG under 24/7, Boxing, TV Shows

After not being too happy with Pacquiao’s training on the last show, Freddie Roach is happier with Pacquiao now.

Jeremy Piven comes to the gym and asks Roach about Pacquiao’s lead wide left.

Manny did a movie in the Philippines and plays a super hero. Roach says Pac does these things to amuse himself and has fun with it.

Cotto’s team member Brian Perez was first a fan who met Cotto in the boxing circles. They’re like brothers according to both. Perez must weigh over 400 pounds and was the guy in the earlier episodes jumping into the water.

Manny was on Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show and looked to be a fan favorite. You can watch his apperance here.

Roach says that Cotto does have bad habits and Pacquiao is going to take advantage of them. He also says that he’s glad no one fixed those bad habits.

Pacquiao/Cotto 24/7 – Episode 2

Published by GG under 24/7, Boxing, TV Shows

If you missed Episode 1, we have it on the site for you to watch.

Pacquiao is leaving Baguio because of the storms, and is training in Manilla before flying back to LA. Roach says his focus just isn’t there training in the Philippines.

They show Cotto with his son spending quality time. Again, when are we going to see this guy as a killer who has a chance to win this fight? I don’t really care about sensitive Miguel. In fact, I want to see someone who can compete with Manny and this show isn’t convincing me based on what they’re showing.

We get to see Manny singing karaoke on a TV show in the Philippines. This might be the greatest thing from the 24/7 series thus far.

Michael Koncz, one of Manny’s advisors and Alex Ariza, Manny’s trainer aren’t getting along, creating something unnecessary going into such a big fight.

Finally, we get to see some Cotto action in the round, but it’s only in still shots because he doesn’t like people shooting his sparring.

Pacquiao/Cotto 24/7 – Episode 1

Published by GG under 24/7, Boxing, TV Shows

The show starts with footage of the press conference at Yankee Stadium last month for the fight. Pacquiao looks like he’s having fun with it, while Cotto looks like he’d rather be elsewhere.

From the looks of it, they’re going to try to tell the story that Pacquiao is now a superstar, while Cotto is more dangerous after losing to Margarito than he was before, which is very questionable.

They show Pacquiao trying to swim, and he’s not a very good swimmer. He says he drinks a lot of water.

Pacquiao is training for the fight in the Phillipines rather than LA with Roach, but there was a heavy typhoon which caused terrible floods. Roach doesn’t want to be there, but he says the same team is there so it’s no different.

Roach says that for being a world champion, Ricky Hatton wasn’t very good in looking back at the fight between Hatton and Pac earlier in the year.

Mayweather/Marquez 24/7 – Episode 4

Published by GG under 24/7, Boxing, TV Shows

Marquez left Mexico for Vegas and yes, we know it’s hard leaving your family. You’ve told us for the last three episodes.

Mayweather arrived in Las Vegas for a public workout. He also did the show Chelsea Lately, which was just an opportunity to make fun of Marquez drinking his urine.

Floyd says that Marquez wants Pacquiao, but Pac doesn’t want him for a third time, and that’s why Marquez targeted Floyd.

Nacho is still in Mexico, cornering other fighters, while Marquez is already in Vegas. He says that he can’t help Juan in the press conferences, but he can in the locker room and ring.

Floyd had to take an eye exam and had his eyes dilated. The eye doctor told him to stay away from the speed bag and he immediately went to hit the speed bag with his sunglasses on. He then did a terrible Ray Charles impersonation.

Marquez runs to keep a sweat, but is done with the hard training. Nacho finally makes it to Vegas and Marquez is restless.

Mayweather says you can never get overconfident. You just believe in yourself. Marquez says that he’s not going to expect to fight someone with the heart he has.

They talk about Floyd missing weight by two pounds, but Marquez says it won’t be a problem. Interestingly, they had the footage, which was just yesterday, which is an awesome turnaround considering the show went on just hours after the weigh-in, but nothing was said about Floyd missing weight. It’s such a big story that’s being hushed by both parties.

Marquez says he came after Mayweather because he thinks he can beat him.

The show ended with a great package that showed Marquez as a clear underdog who is fighting with heart, and Floyd as someone who comes across as unbeatable. No matter what happens tonight, that’s the story that needed to be told.

Mayweather/Marquez 24/7 – Episode 3

Published by GG under 24/7, Boxing, TV Shows

Floyd saw footage of Marquez drinking his own urine and said that that he’ll give him some of his own if he wants it.

He says that if you’re in shape, you’re in shape. You don’t need to drink your own urine if you’re in good shape.

He mocks him by pretending to drink urine for the cameras. Floyd better win man, or else he’s gonna get it from people. But hey, he did the same thing to Oscar and Ricky.

Marquez visits his parents’ house as a farewell before leaving to Vegas for the fight, which is a routine. The Marquez parents had five daughters before they got a son.

They talked about Roger’s son who is four, who can mimic Floyd and whether or not he has a future in boxing. Roger just says he doesn’t know yet because he’s too young. The kid hit the speed bag and the crazy bag as a four year old, better than I did when I first tried both at the start.

Eddie Murphy showed up to watch Floyd and says he’s bigger, stronger, and faster than JMM, and that’s why he’ll win. Floyd Sr. made sure Eddie didn’t forget about his being smarter.

Roger tried to school Eddie on boxing trivia, but Eddie got it right because he saw 24/7 from last week.

Juan’s wife says she doesn’t go to Vegas for the fights because she doesn’t want him to mix business with pleasure. She thinks positively about the outcome, but says there’s a risk every time. She wishes he would retire.

They showed a little bit of footage from the media rounds that both boxers did. Marquez went to a soccer match in Mexico. Floyd was shown letting the media into his gym and saying that he doesn’t watch tape, he just reacts in the ring.

Roger says that when people want to talk strategy, he just tells them it’s “bullshit”.

Mayweather thinks that he can’t be beat, while Marquez says that all the trash talking doesn’t help you in the ring.

The fight is next weekend and there’s only one more episode left of 24/7.

Mayweather/Marquez 24/7 – Episode 2

Published by GG under 24/7, Boxing, TV Shows

The first shot is of Marquez throwing heavy rocks in high altitude in order to build muscle. And the second shot was of him drinking down 25 quail eggs. He truly is the Mexican Rocky Balboa.

His trainer, Nacho Beristain thinks that his speed isn’t where it needs to be in order to beat Floyd. He needs to be more explosive.

He ends his workout by sucking up pure oxygen in a hyperbaric chamber. He says it helps him recuperate better after a day of heavy training.

Roger says that he doesn’t tell Floyd how many rounds to spar or how long to hit the bag because he’s going to do it anyway. He wants Floyd to win his 7th world championship so he can tie Sugar Ray Robinson.

Marquez studied accounting before he became a boxer. He’s also his son’s match tutor.

They show him hanging out with his family, which is different than many fighters who go away for training camp. He would rather be with his family. Though, the family won’t be joining him in Las Vegas.

Juan’s wife’s sister is married to Juan’s brother Rafael. It’s all in the family with the Marquez family.

They show Floyd getting a pedicure. What’s up with these athletes getting pedicures? First TO, then Chad Ochocinco showed us the hammertime in his shoes. And now Floyd.

Floyd has a specific guy to take care of his hands because he used to have problems breaking his hands. He says he doesn’t let anyone else wrap his hands.

After a hard workout, they show Juan drinking his own urine. How can the same guy who sucks pure oxygen out of a hyperbaric chamber be the same dude who drinks his own piss?

He says he’s done it for the last five or six fights and does it because a lot of unused vitamins and proteins go through your waste. How about this Juan? How about you just take some more vitamin C and drink a protein shake. Your body can’t use it, which is why it’s in your urine bro.

I don’t think jump roping skills have ever one anyone a fight, but watching Floyd Jr. skip rope is a true pleasure. He and his dad are comparing biceps.

Floyd Jr. says he regrets not being the bigger man and getting back with his dad before he did, especially because of his dad’s lung disease, which Floyd Sr. says there is no cure for.

Mayweather/Marquez 24/7 – Episode 1

Published by GG under 24/7, Boxing, TV Shows

The show opens up in a roller rink, which could be the same roller rink in which a shooting occurred last weekend. Yep, it’s the same one. Mayweather says he didn’t have anything to with it, though they searched his house and seized some hand guns. I wonder if the show mentions his uncle’s recent issues.

He says his retirement was because his body needed to heel and also because he needed to find out who he was as a person, but boxing was still in him.

Uncle Roger says all athletes come back and Floyd specifically loved that lamplight. I think he meant limelight. He also says Spanish fighters are tough, but they rely on their heart, not their brain. He said the difference between Marquez and Mayweather is that Marquez is good, but Mayweather is great.

Marquez is being trained by Nacho Beristain, who you’ll remember trained Oscar De La Hoya for his fight with Manny Pacquaio. This will be Marquez’s 56th fight of his career. He’s won titles in 3 different weight classes.

He says that even though the first fight was a draw, that he beat Manny Pacquiao. And he said that he clearly beat Pacquiao in the second fight.

The fight is at 144 pounds, 9 more than Marquez has ever weighed in the ring.

Pacquiao/Hatton 24/7 – Episode 4

Published by GG under 24/7, Boxing, TV Shows

Roger Mayweather says Hatton needs to keep the head movement and he’ll be able to take out Pacquiao.

Floyd Sr. says that Roger’s son reminds him of Floyd Jr. and is the next Mayweather coming up.

Roach says that he’s confident that his fighter is ready and he’s the best because he always fights to the game plan.

Hatton says he’s happy to see his fiance, but he really wants to get to his fight and worry about nothing else.

He doesn’t want his son Campbell to be at the fight because he could get knocked out at any time and he doesn’t want his son to have to go through that.

Floyd Sr. says that he’s excited for the fight because with the shape his boxer is in, he knows he’s going to win, because he’s the best trainer.

Roach says he’s not a father, but his relationship with Pac is like a father/son one. He calls Pacquiao his favorite guy who he trains.

There wasn’t nearly enough press conference footage.

The fight is on tonight and we’ll be back here live with coverage of Hatton/Pacquiao.
