UFC Prime Time – St. Pierre Vs. Hardy Episode I

This is the second time Spike TV has put together a Prime Time for a UFC fight. It’s very much mirrored after HBO Boxing’s 24/7. The goal of the show has to be to make Dan Hardy into either a worthy contender, or just someone so hateable that you want to see him lose.

The first time they did the show was last year and it also starred Georges St. Pierre. He was fighting BJ Penn and if you remember, Penn was pretty upset at the production of the show. We’ll see if Dan Hardy gets upset. I have a feeling he won’t. I think he simply wants to be the bad guy.

Georges is doing an Olympic weight lifting routine to gain ten pounds and increase his strength and athleticism. He did a crazy jumping squat with about 150 pounds on his shoulders. He says that he’s the most confident he’s ever been.

Hardy says that on the Sunday after the fight, all the GSP “nut huggers” will be in mourning. He doesn’t know how GSP can put his pants on with all the nut huggers on him.

Fight Camp 360: Inside The Super Six World Boxing Classic – Episode 3

Published by GG under Boxing, Fight Camp 360, TV Shows

This episode focuses on all three fights of Stage 1 of the Super Six World Boxing Classic.

The show starts with Lou DiBella talking about Jermain Taylor’s scary concussion in his fight against Arthur Abraham as a teaser to open Episode 3. It leads into the morning of the fight with DiBella telling JT’s wife that he hasn’t seen him as skinny in a long time.

Gary Shaw tells Andre Dirrell to let Carl Froch come to him and he doesn’t have to worry about the knockout.

Taylor/Abraham

Arthur Abraham is portrayed like a rock star and if you remember the entrance for his fight with JT, that’s exactly who he was.

They showed the fight from the perspective of Taylor’s wife and mother and it was heartbreaking. His mother walked out when Abraham buckled him earlier in the fight, but his wife made his mother come back and watch. And then in the last round when Taylor went down hard, both his wife and mother agreed that they have their whole lives left and there’s nothing left to prove. I think that was the sentiment that we all had for Jermain. He’s had a really good career.

Dirrell/Froch

Exclusive: Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair make their in-ring TNA debuts on…

Published by Big D under Impact, Pro Wrestling, Raw, TNA, TV Shows

March 8th, when TNA returns to Monday Nights, this time permanently (unless they tank), at 9PM to compete with WWE.

This is interesting because the last time TNA went head to head with WWE on Monday Nights was the infamous January 4th show when they made their debuts. Apparently, rather than try to pop a buyrate by having Flair’s first televised match since his retirement on this hemisphere and Hogan’s last in forever, they are planning to throw haymakers at WWE.

The planned match as of this writing is AJ Styles and Ric Flair vs. Abyss and Hulk Hogan. Sources close to TNA have speculated that the Abyss feud with AJ is only a placeholder until The Pope can retake the primary feud.

This is an interesting strategy to examine considering that the rumors of RVD coming in and Jeff Hardy returning on that date are going to be running rampant as we approach March 8th, but just to seal the deal, will have Hogan and Flair make a dual debut. I wonder if this is just a desperation tactic for that night. The issue is – how will they be able to follow it up afterward?

Rumors are also flying that the final Thursday Impact is set to be headlined by AJ Styles vs. Desmond Wolfe vs. Abyss vs. The Pope in a non-title four-way. Should be a fun match, but I wouldn’t have Pope and AJ touch until Lockdown. Oh well, this is TNA.

Brother, if it wasn’t 1995-esque before… it sure as hell is now!

The Road To WrestleMania XXVI – Week 2

Published by GG under Pro Wrestling, Raw, Review, Smackdown!, WWE

Usually, Smackdown isn’t a newsworthy show. It’s just a good wrestling show heavy on the matches and not as heavy on the angles. But come Mania time, Smackdown can be just as newsworthy and angle-worthy as Raw, in addition to having the strong wrestling. Last Friday’s show was really good in this way.

They were able to keep the intrigue alive of who Edge was going to challenge, as he teased spearing The Undertaker at the end of the show. He also went face to face with Chris Jericho, giving Chris Jericho the “how dare you?” for being happy that Edge was injured and unable to continue doing his childhood dream. Edge was in total babyface mode. CM Punk was also made strong as he danced with Jericho, Edge, and Taker in the main event segment.

The other intriguing angle from Smackdown was Dave Batista losing to Punk in the match to be the participant in the Smackdown Elimination Chamber. After showing footage of Batista attacking John Cena after Raw went off the air, Batista walked out of his match and was counted out, taking him out of the chamber match and adding more intrigue to the John Cena/Vince McMahon/Bret Hart storyline. Why did Batista opt out? Did Vince want him to opt out? We got a little bit of progression on Monday when Vince admitted that he paid Batista to attack Bret Hart, but it’s not yet transparent.

Now that both Elimination Chambers are set, here are the main events for the formerly known as No Way Out PPV.

The Ultimate Fighter Season 10: The Heavyweights – Episode 11

We had a one week break for the holiday and the show is back with a vengeance. We get back to back shows to finish up the season. The finale is on Saturday.

Dana says that no one wanted to push Matt Mitrione out of his spot and he was surprised.

Kimbo says he has a knee injury, but he doesn’t want to get a cortisone shot because he thinks it will screw him down the line. Dana says he never expected Kimbo to turn down the fight. I think Kimbo thinks McSweeney would just kick him in the knee all fight long.

Mitrione says he feels better and he’s ready to throw hands. He’s 100%. McSweeney says he’s just going to keep moving and wants to kick his head off for the knock out. That’s why this sport is so brutal. The guy had a near concussion and the other fighter’s game plan is to kick him right in the head. Scary stuff.

Mitrione admits that he was working his injury a bit to keep James off-guard. Awesome.

Scott Junk says his fighting career is over. He had two tears in his retina and had to get laser surgery. He doesn’t believe it.

Fight Camp 360: Inside The Super Six World Boxing Classic – Episode 2

Published by GG under Boxing, Fight Camp 360, TV Shows

This episode of Fight Camp 360 focuses on the Andre Ward vs. Mikkel Kessler fight that is set to happen on Saturday, November 21 in Oakland, California.

The show opens with Gary Shaw upset because Carl Froch’s group is late for a press conference with his fighter, Andre Dirrell. Shaw tells Dirrell that on Thursday, he wins the press conference, Friday he wins the weigh-in, and Saturday he wins the fight. I’m not sure if he won the first two, but unfortunately for Dirrell, he lost the third one. I’m not sure he won the press conference either. He was acting like a fool. Though, he did put on a really good performance that could’ve gone either way.

They show how they put together Arthur Abraham’s entrance from his fight with Jermaine Taylor. I think I saw similar theatrics with Michael Jackson’s concert that never happened.

Mikkel Kessler’s shown with his family. His sister said that she never thought he’d stick with boxing because he was such a wussy. Kessler says that the hard training originally attracted him to boxing.

The next scene was with Carl Froch’s girlfriend. This, I approve.

Arthur Abraham didn’t want to talk about which shot he was going to beat Taylor with, while Taylor says his goal was to win the tournament and be back on top.

The Ultimate Fighter Season 10: The Heavyweights – Episode 10

Meat Head says he had brain swelling that turned into a migraine. He’s not sure if he wants to fight. He feels slow. Rashad thinks he had a concussion, he doesn’t think so.

Trevor Wittman thinks that Mitrione is making up excuses. Rashad says Mitrione has to want it more than Rashad and the team want it for him. McSweeney thinks that Matt is showing his true colors and it’s disrespectful to his opponent.

Rampage thinks that Kimbo can beat McSweeney if Mitrione pulls out. Kimbo hurt his knee rolling though. Rampage says if he was fighting Kimbo, he’d go right for the knee.

Brendan Schaub is facing Jon Madsen and and he thinks that Madsen is one-dimensional and he’s only looking for the takedown. He asked Rashad for help, but Rashad isn’t helping, so Big Country helped out as the defacto coach.

Kimbo is missing cartilage in his knee and is going to need to drain his knee. He doesn’t want to cortisone shot.
