Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey Live Play By Play

Published by Big D under Boxing, PPV, Play by Play

Welcome to our live play by play of the Joshua Clottey vs. Manny Pacquiao Boxing Battle live from the beautiful Dallas Cowboys Stadium as these two warriors step into the ring in front of 40,000 fans. I’ve been watching a little bit of the undercard, switching back and forth between that and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (great movie). Keep clicking refresh or pressing F5 on your keyboard for updates throughout the fight.

I’m amped and ready to go!

Arena looks beautiful. If pro wrestling was as popular as it was in 1999 and 2000, we’d have the biggest show ever there. Maybe if Brock vs. somebody can get enough interest, UFC can run there one day. It’s amazing.

Alright main event time. Clottey vs. Pac!

So we begin with the Ghana and Filipino National Anthems are our fighters prepare for war. They got three Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders doing the American National Anthem and let me just say… I would not mind sticking my rocket in their red glare. :blues:. Sorry, I had to. They look cute.

They played an AWESOME boxing video package with some of the sports best, including footage of Hagler/Hearns and other big moments.

Here comes Joshua Clottey. How many entrance songs does this guy have? Yeeesh. It’s like Triple H. He’s dancing to his song. This is too much like R-Truth for my tastes. Pac is coming out now – smiling – looking as confident as ever. I’d hate to say it, but it looks like Pac might run through this man like a stampede of rhinos. He comes out to ACDC’s Thunderstruck, then Eye of the Tiger – WHY? Is this a new thing now? Changing songs.

Michael Buffer begins with his introductions… big pop for Pac

Round 1

Both guys start very cautious. Pac going to the body early. Nailed a big right hand that looked painful. Clottey has no answer for this thusfar. Pac wins that round hands down.

Round 2

UFC 110 Play By Play – Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira Vs. Cain Velasquez

Published by GG under Mixed Martial Arts, PPV, Play by Play, UFC

It’s UFC 110 time from Australia. It looks like a really fun show on paper, but that doesn’t always translate into being a good show.

Mirko Cro Cop is fighting first, but it won’t be against Ben Rothwell who pulled out on Thursday. Australian, Anthony Perosh takes his spot. It wasn’t that long ago when a Cro Cop fight was an event in unto itself. Boy has that changed.

1. Mirko Cro Cop vs. Anthony Perosh

Perosh wanted takedown, but he couldn’t get it and every time he ended up on his back, Cro Cop let him up. Mirko was patient and though he landed some heavy left hands, didn’t really follow up on them. He easily won the first round, but in a pretty unimpressive way considering that we don’t know Perosh at all.

Perosh can take some punishment. Cro Cop nailed him with an elbow on the ground and opened up a nasty cut on his forehead over his right eye. Herb Dean asked Perosh if he wanted to continue and he did and immediately took another big shot to the face and Cro Cop went into finish mode. Perosh survived, but they ended it at the end of the round.

From Big D who will be with us for the show tonight:

It’s good to see Mirko finally get a freakin’ win in the UFC. The fight ended a lot more violently than I expected, which I think is the best for Mirko. I hope he actually gets Rothwell his next go-round.

Winner: Mirko Cro Cop by way of 2nd round TKO

2. Ryan Bader vs. Keith Jardine

Aftermath: UFC 109: Relentless

2010’s Super Saturday UFC show is now just a recent memory fading, fading, and fading into history. In fact, this show probably NEEDED to fade. But oh well, let’s see what the Gods had to say…

GG

Thumbs down
Best Fight: Chael Sonnen vs. Nate Marquardt
Worst Fight: Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller

Well, this wasn’t exactly the kind of card we hoped for, but it wasn’t all bad. I did enjoy seeing Matt Serra get a knockout win. Frank Trigg didn’t look good at all and retirement may be in his future. I was befuddled that they’d put another decision on from earlier in the night right after Demian Maia’s boring win over Dan Miller, but they wanted to showcase Mr. Wonderful. They shouldn’t waited until after Swick vs. Thiago. Chael Sonnen and Nate Marquardt was very fun, but not your regular fun fight. There wasn’t a lot of back and forth and it was mostly a wrestling destruction by Sonnen. I think Marquardt made the fight by continuing to fight from his back, but Sonnen really schooled him on this night. And Couture knocking out Coleman was anticlimactic because the second you saw Coleman react slowly to Randy’s punches, it was only time before he was going to be finished.

UFC 109 Live Play By Play – Randy Couture Vs. Mark Coleman

Published by GG under Mixed Martial Arts, PPV, Play by Play, UFC

Hey, I was able to blog this live after all.

Call it Age In The Cage or whatever you want, just as long as you call it the main event of UFC 109. Some may think that this show is worthless, but I guarantee you that it’ll do a better buy rate than Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva, with Rashad being hotter than he’s ever been because of Rampage Jackson and The Ultimate Fighter. There’s just something about Randy Couture.

1. Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg

Serra said Trigg is a guy he’d smack for nothing. For whatever reason, Trigg has hair. I hope it’s not a wig. Serra looks a little better body wise than Trigg, which I didn’t expect.

Serra had troubles early on with Trigg’s reach advantage. He was going in and out trying to create some room to land. Trigg seemed a little too comfortable. Serra went low and then threw a looping right hand to the head and put Trigg out. He followed it up and Trigg was done. I wasn’t surprised, but I didn’t think it would happen so quickly.

Winner: Matt Serra by 1st round TKO

2. Dan Miller vs. Demian Maia

Aftermath – WWE Royal Rumble 2010

Published by Big D under Aftermath, PPV, Pro Wrestling, WWE

So the 2010 WWE Royal Rumble is now in the history books. The winner this year was the returning Edge, whom I knew would return and eliminate his rival Chris Jericho, but really had no clue that he was going to go on and win the damn thing. There were numerous people who could’ve won and numerous top guys that made sense and it seemed like the WWE overly telegraphed Shawn Michaels to win the thing and he infact did not.

Unfortunately for me, I missed the first 90 minutes or so of the show because DirecTV is run by a buncha Helen Kellers. Amazing that a company that has been around for 2 decades manages to make the same mistakes they made then. Is Michael Cole a VP? I was extremely pleased when Triple H got eliminated and wasn’t one of the final four like he always is, much less the winner. You know how much I hate that man and more importantly you all know how happy I am to see Edge back and what a huge Edge fan I am so yes, it was indeed a good night for me.

What about the rest of the Fight Gamers?

Let’s take a looksie!

2010 Royal Rumble Live Play By Play – Rey Myseterio Vs. The Undertaker

Published by GG under PPV, Play by Play, Pro Wrestling, WWE

I say this every year and I’ll say it again; the Royal Rumble is my favorite show of the year. There’s something about the intrigue of the Royal Rumble as it pertains to the booking on the Road to WrestleMania.

Underneath the big rumble, The Undertaker and Rey Mysterio should be fun, and Randy Orton vs. Sheamus will be interesting to say the least. Let’s hope young Randall Orton keeps his cool if Sheamus isn’t exactly in the right spot.

1. Christian vs. Ezekiel Jackson

Early on, it was a cat and mouse game with Christian running around like a chicken with his head cut off. They had some fun big man/little man stuff that was fun. When Big Zeke was on the offense, he hit all his big power moves and Christian sold very well. But the match slowed down a little.

They showed some creativity during the finish as Christian was looking to hit the Killswitch/Unprettier and Zeke was looking to hit power moves. Christian finally hit his finisher for the win. It was much better than it had any right being and that’s thanks to Christian, but Zeke was fine too.

Winner: Christian

To show you how out of touch the WWE can be at times, Cryme Tyme was trying to get into the Royal Rumble and tried to finagle The Great Khali out of his spot so they could both get in. The Great Khali said no, and Ranjin said that they learned their hip talk from watching Family Matters reruns. On queue, Khali said, “Did I do that?” And then Teddy decided to start singing Pants On The Ground at Cryme Tyme. The Miz came out and Teddy told him that he has to face MVP next. Then Khali started to sing, “Who let the dogs out?”

Cody came out and told Randy that he was on board, but Ted wasn’t and Ted wanted to win the Rumble and face Orton for the World Title (of course assuming that he could beat Sheamus tonight).

…and the site for Wrestlemania 27 is…

Published by Big D under News, PPV, Pro Wrestling, WWE

Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia Dome.

Access Atlanta is reporting that the city of Atlanta, GA has won the bid to Wrestlemania 27 in the Georgia Dome in 2011. This Monday there is a press conference scheduled there at noon.

Historically, Atlanta has always been a hotbed for professional wrestling in the 1980s, with Ole Anderson and the Briscoes presenting Georgia Championship Wrestling from the legendary Omni in Atlanta. Once Jim Crockett Promotions purchased Georgia, they ran numerous events in the territory including Starrcade, the biggest annual event.

In the 90s, there have been a handful of big pro wrestling shows from Atlanta, capping off with two record-breaking WCW Nitros. The summer of 1998 had a record 40,000+ fans watch the undefeated Goldberg beat Hulk Hogan for the WCW Championship in what many consider the biggest Nitro of all time (and the biggest crowd in WCW history). January 4th, 1999, WCW hoped to top it even further by presenting another historic Nitro, but this show was historic for other reasons: the finger poke of doom.

Many people thought that this Nitro “killed the town”. If that didn’t do it, who can forget the historic 2001 episode of Raw is War where WWE brought back ECW, led by Paul Heyman and the debuting Rob Van Dam and Tommy Dreamer to battle the forces of the WWF and WCW… until the end of the night when Stephanie McMahon was revealed to be the owner of ECW and aligned with WCW. This became the biggest flopped angle in wrestling history. If WCW didn’t do damage, THAT certainly did.

Me personally, I wanted it in Miami. Oh well… can’t win em all.

Atlanta’s Phillips Arena is the site for this Sunday’s Royal Rumble PPV.

Aftermath – TNA Genesis 2010

Published by Big D under Aftermath, PPV, Pro Wrestling, TNA, WWE

The first TNA PPV of the Hulk Hogan era is in the books and is getting all sorts of mixed reviews all throughout the interwebs. GG and I were the only ones who got to see it from FGB, so here are our thoughts:

GG
Thumbs in the middle
Best match – Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles
Worst match – Tara vs. ODB

I don’t mind sacrificing great wrestling to push angles if you deem them important first off. But none of the stuff they pushed as huge was really all that big. Ken Anderson was a huge let down. There were only two matches that were really good. I liked Desmond and Pope because it was something different. It was long and had some boring spots, but it was easy to follow and they told a good story. Angle and AJ was good, but not great. I don’t like AJ as a heel or as a Ric Flair like character. It looks like something that’s doomed to fail.

Also, Daniels losing to Morley was terrible. That kind of stuff is a what makes people change the channel and what doomed WCW. I give them a bit of a mulligan because they don’t have their stuff together, but also can’t give this anymore than a thumbs in the middle.

Big D
Thumbs in the Middle
Best match – The Pope vs. Desmond Wolfe
Worst Match – Tara vs. ODB

We saw a bunch of changes, including a new set, ramp, and now FOUR-Sided ring. But these are NOT necessarily the changes I hoped for with Hogan and Bischoff in control. The “WWE jobbers” as I call it were put over way too often, with Ken Anderson flopping in his victory over Abyss and the former Val Venis botching in HIS win over Chris Daniels, who by the way was MAIN EVENTING the last two TNA PPVs and having classic matches in both. Some good stuff though was the main event and the awesome Pope vs. Wolfe match, which I think stole the show. At first I was lukewarm to the idea of AJ Styles as a heel, then I realized he’s too short and not believable as a bad guy. I’m a wrestling fan and I’m supposed to BOO AJ Styles and Ric Flair? Huh? Big mistake. There were a LOT of mistakes made on this show, and some small improvements… so it’s gotta be in the middle.

TNA Genesis PPV (2010) Play By Play – Kurt Angle Vs. AJ Styles Plus Hulk Hogan

Published by GG under PPV, Play by Play, Pro Wrestling, TNA

Yep, I decided to get this show. It might be four years since I’ve seen an actual TNA PPV live, but hey, I’m caught up in the buzz too. I’m intrigued, but I know that more than likely, I’ll be disappointed in the end. But at least we’re going to get a good main event.

Big D will chime in with his thoughts from time to time.

Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff are in the ring to do a promo. There’s now a ramp and there’s no more 6-sided ring. Of course, on queue, the fans start chanting that they want six sides. Hogan says in a 4-sided ring is where professional wrestling is done. He said it’s where they shed their blood, sets, and tears. I think me meant sweat.

He called out Vince McMahon with his “Whatcha gonna do!” line and then called him “brother! or sister” at the end.

1. Amazing Red vs. Brian Kendrick

Kendrick’s the mystery guy, but we told you that last night on FGB Radio. Kendrick looks like he’s in his heel “The Brian Kendrick” character. No Don West with Red.

There’s a very large woman in a purple dress sitting ringside who looks like Brooke Hogan.

It was a pretty good back and forth match. Kendrick is much larger than Red and the story was almost like the champ was the underdog. I think most expected Kendrick to take the title. Kendrick slowed the match down as he and Red were off with the timing a bit. Red finished him with the Code Red, which is a cool little move. Very solid opener.

From Big D:

Hot opener. Surprised Red won, but Kendrick looked good. They must like Red. Bisch likes young guys.

Winner: Amazing Red

Sean Waltman beat Scott Hall in rock, paper, scissors to be Nash’s tag team partner after Bischoff and Hogan told them that they don’t have a contract and have to prove themselves. Why Hall would agree since he’s in the same boat as Waltman, the world will never know.

2. Sean Morley vs. Christopher Daniels

UFC 108 – Rashad Evans Vs. Thiago Silva Play By Play

Published by GG under Mixed Martial Arts, PPV, Play by Play, UFC

We’ll see how low UFC buy rates can get. At the very least, with low expectations, if this show is any good at all, I think most fans will be happy.

1. Gilbert Yvel vs. Junior Dos Santos

Dos Santos came out to Gonna Fly Now from Rocky.

Yvel absolutely didn’t look comfortable in there for whatever reason. In boxing, the back and forth can sometimes look like a dance. This was no dance. Neither guy seemed to be able to get off crisp shots, but Dos Santos was staying within himself while Yvel was lunging a bit. Then Dos Santos slipped under a punch and unleashed a left hook of doom. Either he didn’t connect perfectly, or Yvel has a head of granite. But he was able to follow him to the ground and finish him.

Winner: Junior Dos Santos by way of 1st round TKO

2. Duane Ludwig vs. Jim Miller
