DREAM and K1 will once again join forces for the big Dynamite New Years Eve show in Saitama, Japan.
This year the card will also include fighters from Japan’s other leading MMA promotion Sengoku, as they compete in a number of DREAM VS. Sengoku themed matches.
As in previous years, the event will feature a mix of both Kick Boxing and MMA bouts.
DREAM was back once again this past weekend. Just 19 days removed from the Featherweight Grand Prix finals, FEG presented DREAM 12 live in Osaka, Japan. This show was noteworthy because for the first time DREAM opted to use a hexagon shaped cage as opposed to a ring. Gone to was the marathon first round, instead being replaced by the 3 five minute round structure of the unified rules. Continue Reading »
DREAM was back today with another excellent show from the Yokohama Arena in Japan. DREAM 11 featured the conclusion of the featherweight grand prix, more from the Super Hulk Tournament, the return of Kazushi Sakuraba, and some damn great fights, so let’s get straight into it. Continue Reading »
Marius Zaromskis has upset the odds by winning the DREAM welterweight grandprix, and becoming the promotion’s first welterweight champion.
The 26 year old Lithuanian scored two stunning high kick knockouts en route to the title. In the semifinal bout he stopped tournament favourite Hayato “Mach” Sakurai midway through the first round, before going on to knockout Jason High in absolutely terrifying fashion. Both will probably go down as knockout of the year contenders. Continue Reading »
UFC President Dana White said that MMA legend Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovich has signed a three-fight contract extension with the Ultimate Fighting Championship after a very thorough meeting with UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta sometime last week.
Cro Cop’s future in the UFC was placed in major jeopardy when it was reported that Cro Cop, after making a verbal agreement with Dana White to fight at UFC 99, instead signed to fight for DREAM Fighting Championship for the rest of 2009.
What’s bizarre about this story is that DREAM confirmed that Filipovic would fight on the July 20th, DREAM.10 show against Mighty Mo (Saila-Mou Siligia). I’ve heard from one source that the fight has since been scrapped after Mirko signed with the UFC, but I can’t confirm that just yet. We do know for sure that Cro Cop is under contractual obligation to fight Junior Dos Santos at UFC 103. But again, the story gets even STRANGER as the UFC recently released the poster for UFC 103 and neither that fight nor Cro Cop were featured, despite it being the HEAVILY rumored main event. Earlier this morning, Jose Canseco fought Hong Man Choi in the first round of the Super Hulk tournament at Dream.9. He lasted probably about a minute longer than anyone thought he would, but he still went down to the big man.
(I have no idea if this video is going to stay up or not, so if it doesn’t, I apologize and will try to find another copy.)
