Check out the Face Off With Max Kellerman about the Canelo Alvarez and Amir Khan fight.
Without a real grudge, this fight is lacking something in the build. Maybe the most interesting thing about this fight is Amir Khan’s attempt to appeal to hardcore boxing fans as something better than most think he is.
Khan was once a fantastic prospect who looked to become a main player in the land of welterweights and junior welterweights. Unexpected losses to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia, the latter being a terrible knockout loss, changed a lot of minds about him. Since then, he’s gone 5-0, though hasn’t really taken the boxing world back by storm.
And in watching the Face Off, you don’t really feel like he and Virgil Hunter have something different for Canelo. I was looking to see if Khan and Hunter mention that they saw something from Canelo’s loss to Floyd Mayweather and they were going to build on that.
Instead, Max Kellerman focused on the weight difference between the two, with Hunter throwing a weird shot at Canelo about how he gains weight after the weigh-in.
The boxing world will finally have its collective eyes back on Khan come May 7th. Khan said he was going to shock the world, which rarely happens. He’ll have his chance.
