Check out the first episode of 24/7 Canelo/Khan.
I will say, it was a bit of a breath of fresh air for the new series of 24/7 episodes to not have Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather. While I didn’t think of it initially, our own Duan mentioned it to me, and he was right on the money.
With Mayweather out of the picture for now and Pacquiao on the decline from a box office standpoint, this is really an opportunity for HBO and boxing to put the showcase on new stars. Canelo is there now. Triple G is almost there. Where does Amir Khan fit in?
The most impressive part of this 24/7 so far is simply that Khan’s in it. Khan is a really good speaker, a smart guy and he comes across well on TV. The hardest part here in building Khan as new mainstream star is simply that many don’t give him a chance to beat Canelo. He’s going to need a great performance to take advantage of the exposure. A quick loss and it’s seemingly all for naught.
You won’t really learn anything about Canelo that you don’t already know. In fact, you could’ve just recycled old footage from previous 24/7s and I don’t think it would’ve mattered one bit.
