What is your oldest WrestleMania moment?
I have vague memories of some of the earlier shows – certainly from The Mega Powers Explode onwards and probably before that to – but Wrestlemania 8 was sort of the first time I can remember actively following the angles week to week and knowing what matches were being built. As a child I rewatched the tape of that show until it broke, so I guess my oldest memory then would be the opener between Michaels and Tito Santana. Bizarre.
What is your favorite WrestleMania moment and why?
Austin’s title win at 14. I’m not sure there has ever been a storyline I was more invested in than Stone Cold’s first title chase. The build was superb and the product was so hot at the time anyway that it came off looking even bigger and better than it was. Austin getting the belt back then mattered in a way that title changes just don’t anymore.
What is the best WrestleMania match you’ve ever seen?
Undertaker/Michaels from 26. Their bout a year prior should have been impossible to follow, yet they were somehow able to layout an entirely different sort of match and still surpass it. Everything from the build up, execution, finish and aftermath was handled absolutely perfectly. That run might have been my favourite thing WWE has ever done full stop.
What is the one WrestleMania moment that you wished had happened, but didn’t?
It could still happen yet, but it’s that one last Stone Cold match where we all know going in that it’s the final chapter.
What is your favorite WrestleMania show ever and why
Tough to choose just one. The run of shows between 17 and 20 are all great, and that period sort of bookends the time I was most enthusiastic about the business as a fan. Wrestlemania 8 is still my sentimental favourite though, and it’s a great show too.
