The Ultimate Fighter Season 14 – Episode 1

This season, Jason “Mayhem” Miller and Michael Bisping are the coaches. With Mayhem, you’ll get shenanigans. With Bisping, you’ll get douche baggy-ness. While I’m not sure I care about them fighting each other at the end of the season, I think they’ll be an entertaining duo.

But we should get some of the best fights in TUF history with the 135 and 145 pounders. It’s the first time either weight class has ever been on the show so that means we’re going to see some really good guys. I imagine there are tons of guys who are undiscovered in both weight classes.

Dana tells the 32 guys that at the end of the season, fans will vote for the knockout, submission, and fight of the night and they’ll be able to win $25,000 each.

They have to win a fight to get in the house. One of the guys just said his nickname was Big Pimpin’ D-Bomb.

Josh Ferguson (bantam) is fighting Casey Dyer (bantam) first off. Ferguson absolutely overwhelmed him and put him out. I think Dyer threw one punch.

Diego Brandao (feather) is fighting Jesse Newell (feather). Newell was holding his own, but Brandao landed a nasty left hook and pretty much knocked him out and then hit him with a forearm on the ground for good measure.

John Dodson (bantam) is fighting Brandon Merkt (bantam). Dodson threw some sick body shots to put Merkt out. He held him and just blasted his ribs.

Dennis Bermudez (feather) is fighting Jimmie Rivera. Bermudez says that he was a good wrestler and had to stop because he got someone pregnant, only to find out two years later that the kid was not his. That’s nuts. Bermudez won by tiring out Rivera in the second round after Rivera easily won the first round. He finished him with punches.

BJ Ferguson (bantam) is fighting Roland Delorme. BJ is Josh Ferguson’s brother. He also has a wildman beard. Delorme sunk in a triangle for the win. The brothers won’t be in together.

Marcus Brimage (feather) is fighting Bryson Wailehua-Hansen. You will rarely see anyone take as many punches to the face and not fall down like Wailehua-Hansen did. Holy cow. He lasted the first round after being blasted by at least 50 punches to the face. It was stopped in the second round. It’s the first time I’ve seen a fight stopped where the guy who lost never went down.

2011 WWE Night Of Champions Results

Published by GG under PPV,Pro Wrestling,WWE

To me, this was a one match show and that match featured Triple H. Knowing what generally happens in Triple H matches unless he’s wrestling John Cena or the Undertaker, I didn’t really feel that skipping this show was going to be a big deal. Based on the results, it sounds like the show was ok, but it doesn’t sound like I missed anything ground breaking.

Air Boom beat The Miz and R-Truth by DQ so that feud will probably go on. Dashing Cody Rhodes pinned Ted DiBiase with a school boy. Dolph Ziggler won a four way by pinning John Morrison after Jack Swagger hit the doctor bomb on Morrison and Ziggler stole the pin. Alex Riley was also in the match. Kelly Kelly pinned Beth Phoenix.

In a surprise, Mark Henry beat Randy Orton to win his first World Title. It was the right finish if they want to do something with his character, but I don’t imagine Orton’s going to be without that belt for long. John Cena also won his title back, beating Alberto Del Rio. That finish is kind of mind boggling and kind of kills the Money In The Bank stipulation for me unless Del Rio wins the title back quickly. Maybe in Mexico? There’s a reason why Cena is less popular with wrestling fans than ever. It’s booking just like this.

In the main event, Triple H beat CM Punk after lots of goofy run-ins including R-Truth, The Miz, and the old man. It sounds like they’ll have a lot of explaining to do tomorrow night.

One Day Later – Thoughts On Mayweather/Ortiz

Published by GG under Boxing

Everyone and their mother has had their say about the end of Floyd Mayweather’s win over Victor Ortiz. Now, it’s time for Duan and me. First, Duan will have his say, and then I’ll follow up with my thoughts.

Duan:

There seems to be a lot of confusion over the incident itself, so I’m going to try clear things up the best I can. What people seem to be misinterpreting most is the point at which the break was called. After the initial infringement by Ortiz, the referee called time, deducted a point, and then told them to box on. This is the one and only time they were instructed to break.

When the two fighters return to center ring and exchanging pleasantries, the clock is back running and the bout has resumed. At no point during or after the apology does Cortez call for them to stop boxing, so by the letter of the law, Mayweather was within his rights to continue fighting. The two shots were perfectly legal.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean I have to like it. It was a rotten and cheap thing to do. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t understand the situation. Was Ortiz naive to let his guard down? Certainly, but if it was just a case of him being caught out like that, I would have no issue. Boxers are meant to protect themselves at all times. My problem is with the fact that Mayweather knowingly deceived him into doing it with a false show of sportsmanship. It was no different from feigning a touch of gloves only to punch a guy in the face. It was a classless move and not something I want to see from the sport’s most talented athlete.
