FGB Radio – UFC 132 Preview

Published by GG under Audio,Mixed Martial Arts,UFC

Jason (aka dadrrtywhyteboi) and I nearly got okie doked by Lil’ Jimmy. Ok, it was really an audio issue that took us about an hour to fix. But once we got started, we had a really fun show.

We start off talking about the UFC on Versus show and the bad luck Pat Barry has. We then discuss the Nate Marquardt situation and whether or not guys who need testosterone replacement therapy should be able to fight. We slightly go off-topic for a few minutes to talk about CM Punk’s great promo on Monday Night that was the talk of Twitter.

And then, we get into UFC 132, which on paper, looks to be a really fun show. We talk about all of the SpikeTV fights and the main card fights, giving our picks and predictions.

Video – Brian Kenny Interviews Floyd Mayweather About Manny Pacquiao

Published by GG under Boxing,News

Brian Kenny has another slightly uncomfortable interview with Floyd Mayweather. This time, it wasn’t because Mayweather was riding him about his questioning, but some of the questioning was a bit off-topic.

The main question surrounded Manny Pacquiao, who Floyd said he’d fight if he decided to do the random blood/urine testing that Floyd has in place for all his fights now.

Latest Update On The Nate Marquardt Situation

Published by GG under Mixed Martial Arts,News,UFC

If you want to read the first update on Nate Marquardt, it’s here.

Nate Marquardt was on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour and disclosed why he didn’t pass his medical exams which caused him to be fired by the UFC. I didn’t see the videocast of the interview, but based on tweets and other reports, it was because of his testosterone levels being off from testosterone replacement therapy, which he’s been on since last August.

He was given a testosterone shot a few weeks ago to help deal with moodiness and that’s when his levels spiked and he couldn’t get them down to normal levels by Saturday, which caused the cancelation of his fight.

UFC Live: Pat Barry Vs. Cheick Kongo Play By Play

Published by GG under Mixed Martial Arts,Play by Play,UFC

The talk of the town in the last couple days is the Nate Marquardt situation. From what we know so far, Marquardt failed his medical requirements for the fight per the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission and was pulled out of his main event fight with Rick Story. He was subsequently fired by Dana White. I’m sure we’ll hear more of the story soon enough.

The main event was changed to Pat Barry vs. Cheick Kongo and Charlie Brenneman was put in Marquardt’s place for the fight.

1. Christian Morecraft vs. Matt Mitrione

Mitrione easily won a round which saw some of the sloppiest boxing you’ll ever see. Mitrione’s hands are just better than Morecraft’s and he’s a much better athlete. Mitrione put him down with a straight left, and then put him down again with a lunging right hook. Morecraft landed one nice combination.

Morecraft took him down and held him there for a lot of the round until they were stood up and Mitrione unloaded with a three punch combination that started with a right hook. Morecraft went down hard and Mitrione didn’t even follow him to the ground. He just let him go down and the referee stopped it.

Winner: Matt Mitrione by way of 2nd round TKO

Mitrione stole Chad Ochocinco’s line by saying that he pisses excellence.

2. John Howard vs. Matt Brown

Brown looked pretty good. He looks stronger than Howard, but was susceptible to a couple of takedowns. He seems like the stronger fighter, but Howard is aggressive and looks like he’s going to keep bringing pressure. Brown had a D’Arce choke for a bit, but let it go.
