With Martin out because of injury, we’re down to five. They teased last week that Christina could be hurt too, but I have a feeling she sticks around.
And, of course she was ok. She has a sprained left ankle. AJ says it was partially and possibly entirely his fault. He apologized and she accepted. She didn’t blame him.
Austin says they’re talking about charisma this week. He says he can’t really teach it to them. They either have it or not.
AJ and Luke were in the ring together and both went for drop toe-holds at the same time. Austin says he’s never seen it before. Bill DeMott blamed AJ.
Bill brought the tour bus to pick up the kids, but on top of the bus were he and James Roday from Psych. Luke seemed to know who he was, though I had no clue. The contestants had to lead the tour as the speaker. AJ was a little flat according to Bill, but Luke was corny. Christina died and Bill questioned her people skills. Bill also questioned Andy’s talking skills. Jeremiah stole the show.
Austin introduced the Rock to the crew. He brought the kids into the ring to get a feel. Christina was bummed out because she’s still hurt. Rock says that the guys need to be looser or else they’ll blow themselves up. Austin made all the kids promo against Bill while the Rock watched.
Jeremiah wasn’t half bad. He even had his own catch phrase. Luke did his best Miz impersonation. He wasn’t half bad either. Christina isn’t confident at all. It was pretty straight forward without much creativity. Andy’s delivery was a bit weird, but it got better in the end. He didn’t really put Bill over though. AJ brought it for the most part. He could’ve been a bit more serious, but it was the best promo of the bunch. Continue Reading »
I’m still on my WWE PPV boycott for another month or so until they get their act together. Based on what I’ve read, it seems that Over The Limit was ok because of the one match I actually wanted to see; Randy Orton vs. Christian, which Orton won. According to what I’ve heard, it was an excellent match and one in which Christian teased going heel. His character has been awesome of late.
John Cena beat the Miz in the I Quit match after Miz tried to do what Rock did to Mick Foley in the late 90s by recording Cena saying I Quit and playing it off Alex Riley’s cell phone and into the mic. The referee figured it out, restarted the match and Cena made Miz say the words. Also, Bret Hart returned to help Jerry Lawler get Michael Cole to kiss his foot. It sounds like R-Truth’s match went well, which was very important to his standing as a new heel. The results are below.
Dark match: Daniel Bryan defeated Drew McIntyre
1. R-Truth defeated Rey Mysterio
2. Ezekiel Jackson defeated Wade Barrett
3. Sin Cara defeated Chavo Guerrero
4. The Big Show and Kane (c) defeated The New Nexus (CM Punk and Mason Ryan)
5. Brie Bella (with Nikki Bella) (c) defeated Kelly Kelly
6. Randy Orton (c) defeated Christian
7. Jerry Lawler defeated Michael Cole
8. John Cena (c) defeated The Miz (with Alex Riley)
A preview to the documentary “The Ghost” about Robert Guerrero’s rise in boxing, is up. Discussed in the preview is Guerrero’s fight in front of a San Jose crowd (just 20 miles north of his hometown Gilroy) with Daud Yordan which ended in a no contest after a clash of the heads. A lot of people questioned Guerrero’s toughness after the stoppage.
While the first Hopkins/Pascal fight wasn’t a great fight, it was a very memorable one. Pascal got out to an early lead and was making Hopkins look old. But he got tired and let his foot off the gas and Hopkins started to win rounds and nearly pulled it out. I had it scored as a draw and the fight was scored a majority draw by the three judges.
Both fighters (and thanks to Jim Gray) immediately started building up a rematch. It’s pretty clear that they don’t like each other, but both have been fantastic in making you want to see their second fight, even if stylistically their first one wasn’t great. Max Kellerman hosted a face-off video interview that was one of the best pieces of promotion you’ll ever see. If it was on HBO or any bigger mainstream media vehicle, this fight would be bigger than it is right now.
Earlier in the night, Bad Chad Dawson won a unanimous decision over Adrian Diaconu.
Hopkins is coming out to his own version My Way. I’m not exactly sure who it was singing, but it was hilarious. There are nearly 18,000 people in Montreal to see this fight. What a tremendous market for combat sports.
Bernard Hopkins vs. Jean Pascal
R1
That’s a hard round to score. Nothing much landed, but there were two counter punches I saw sneak through by Hopkins that would’ve eked it out for him to me. Pascal tried to flurry at the end, and he could get the round because of that. I’ll give it by a hair to Hopkins.
R2
Pascal is just a step ahead of Hopkins on his combinations. He’s clearly the quicker fighter, but Hopkins is so good defensively that he’s not getting caught, though the speed difference is even bigger in this fight than in the past fight.
R3
Pascal had another nice flurry that showed off the speed advantage, but then was hit with a Chuck Liddell over-hand right that stunned Pascal. It was the best shot of the fight so far. Pascal’s best counter is a left-hook so far. Hopkins hit him with another right hand. Pascal closed hard again. It’s another close round and Pascal got off with more shots that landed, but Hopkins landed the best punch. I’d lean towards Hopkins, but wouldn’t argue against Pascal. Continue Reading »
Earlier today, Roy Jones fought Denis Lebedev in Russia, and like has been the norm of late, Jones was beaten, and scarily went out cold on his feet. Hopefully Roy will watch this back and consider retirement because it’s very sad to watch the former champion get beaten to a pulp. See the video below:
