UFC 129 SpikeTV Prelims – Rory MacDonald Vs. Nate Diaz Play By Play
From what I hear, the Facebook fights were tremendous. Hopefully that carries over to the Spike fights. There are two really fun match-ups on Spike, before the PPV show starts.
1. Jake Ellenberger vs. Sean Pierson
Jake Ellenberger looked tremendous. The left hand was there all fight long. He connected with it early with not much on it and then knocked him out with it soon thereafter. Pierson might’ve taken a full Flair flop if Ellenberger didn’t hit him again.
Winner: Jake Ellenberger by way of 1st round TKO
2. Charlie Valencia vs. Ivan Menjivar
Damn. Menjivar is strong. He started out the fight with a spinning back fist that didn’t land. He grabbed Valencia in the clinch, pushed his head away slightly, only to blast him in the nose with an elbow. Valencia crumbled and was finished on the ground.
Winner: Ivan Menjivar by way of 1st round TKO
3. Rory MacDonald vs. Nate Diaz
Lot of feeling each other out early on. MacDonald went for a takedown and actually got Diaz down, but Diaz reversed him, only for MacDonald to nearly get behind him, but they both got up. MacDonald is throwing a lot of kicks and Nate is fighting like a Diaz. Nate shot in for a single leg late in the round, but couldn’t get it. MacDonald looks too strong for him and probably wins the first round. Nate was calling him out after the round was over.
MacDonald took Diaz down from the clinch, but didn’t go after Diaz in his guard. As they got up, he powered Nate down again. But he immediately got out of his guard again. Diaz got a trip, but MacDonald bounced right up. Diaz is starting to be more aggressive, but MacDonald is landing counter shots. MacDonald is just too slick for Diaz right now. Diaz might need a finish, but if you remember the Carlos Condit fight, MacDonald got tired right here.
MacDonald got behind Diaz for two huge suplex/slams. Diaz didn’t land well either time. He ended up on top, but when Diaz defended his arm triangle, he went back to his feet. He suplexed him again right on top of his head. Diaz needs to go back to 155. Diaz was trying to sucker him into coming to the ground, but he was just taking shots from the top.
Winner: Rory MacDonald
30-26, 30-27, and 30-26 were the scores.
4. Ryan Jensen vs. Jason MacDonald
Jason MacDonald subbed Jensen from his back via a triangle.
Winner: Jason MacDonald by way of 1st round submission
