Video – UFC 125 Weigh-Ins
Two things stood out at me while checking out this quick video.
1. Marcus Davis looked drained.
2. Dong Hyun Kim’s six pack is deformed.

The new year of 2011 brings us UFC 125. It was once a show that was going to feature Roy Nelson against Shane Carwin. And then Jose Aldo against Josh Grispi. But because of injuries, neither fight is on the card and the card really lacks star power.
That fact doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be some great fights on the card. Not with Chris Leben, Clay Guida, Brian Stann, Takanori Gomi, and Nate Diaz on the card, it won’t. Also, the prelim card is stacked with guys like Antonio McKee, Mike Brown, Marcus Davis, Jeremy Stephens, and Grispi, who is now fighting Dustin Poirier.
The FGB crew, along with Stevie J from Angry Marks, and friend of the site JP, have predictions ready for what we consider the top two fights on the show.
(Ryan Frederick and I went through all of the fights on FGB Radio earlier in the week, if you want to take a listen.)
Takanori Gomi vs. Clay Guida
Duan: Gomi by 2nd round TKO
Alan: Guida by decision
Stevie J: Guida by decision
JP: Guida by decision
GG: Guida by decision
Duan says:
Guida gets hit alot and Gomi has the power to finish him. Watch Dynamite!! instead!
Alan says:
Duan raised a great point here, Guida does get hit alot and Gomi does have bigtime KO power (ask Tyson Griffin) but Guida also has one of the best chins in MMA. So what I see happening is sometime in the 1st round, Gomi knocks him down but not out and Guida starts to fight desperately and it’s takedown city from there. We’ll get lots of Clay ground & pound in two and three, and if Gomi doesn’t turtle up and get stopped, then it will go to a decision which Guida takes 2 to 1.

In the US, pro wrestling was down because WWE was down. TNA was more putrid than ever, which is a shame because they started 2010 with such high hopes. ROH and Dragon Gate USA continue to put out a product that, for the most part, their audiences like, but their audiences are small and hardcore. And based on what Alan has said, there’s some great stuff in some of the bigger independent organizations.
There’s always good stuff. Sometimes, you just have to dig. Alan, Duan, myself, and Stevie J from Angry Marks have listed our picks for our awards. Also, we have Big D making his return to the site for “One Night Only”, giving his thoughts as well. You can find D at Superfriends Universe.
Most Outstanding Wrestler Of The Year
Alan – Chris Hero
Career year for Metropolis’ finest. He tore it up in NOAH, PWG, ROH, EVOLVE and wXw during the course of the year, having one great match after another. Shined in both singles and tags (as part of the Kings Of Wrestling). His matches with Akira Tozawa, the Briscoes, Martin Stone and Davey Richards were crazy good.
Duan – John Cena
Another brilliant year for Cena. He delivered his best work when needed and remains the best reason to tune into WWE TV.

Ok, I feel badly even putting this up, helping promote a fight that shouldn’t be promoted, but this is pretty funny.
Evander Holyfield loves boxing.

Jason, aka dadrrtywhyteboi, is working hard with his schooling and internship, so I had to turn to the MMA encyclopedia of knowledge, Ryan Frederick, to join me to talk about all the recent news in the MMA world.
Ryan (ryanjfrederick on Twitter) and I talked about the injury to Cain Velasquez and how it relates to Brock Lesnar, Chuck Liddell’s retirement, Urijah Faber’s UFC debut, recent UFC cuts, and Nick Diaz and Robbie Lawler re-signing with Strikeforce.
Then we previewed both the Dynamite show and UFC 125 before giving our picks for year end awards.

2010 was yet another year in which we didn’t get Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao. It was another year in which there were very few blockbuster fights, but we did get to see a lot of good boxing thanks to Showtime and HBO.
Thanks to guys like Sergio Martinez, Amir Khan, Manny Pacquiao, Andre Ward, Juan Manuel Marquez, Juan Manuel Lopez, and Bernard Hopkins, it was an entertaining year.
Joining me on the awards are Duan from this site and Jake Emen from Pro-Boxing Fans. You can see the Pro-Boxing Fans awards on their site.
Boxer Of The Year
Duan – Sergio Martinez
The undisputed middleweight champion, Sergio battered Pavlik over 12 rounds to take the belt, and then reversed the loss that should have been (a win), devestating Paul Williams in 2. This is a guy who has taken no short cuts. He’s gone on the road and taken all comers. I’m absolutely delighted that he is finally got what he deserves. A class act and one of the sports true good guys.
