Aftermath – WWE Royal Rumble 2010

Published by Big D at 2:02 am under Aftermath,PPV,Pro Wrestling,WWE

So the 2010 WWE Royal Rumble is now in the history books. The winner this year was the returning Edge, whom I knew would return and eliminate his rival Chris Jericho, but really had no clue that he was going to go on and win the damn thing. There were numerous people who could’ve won and numerous top guys that made sense and it seemed like the WWE overly telegraphed Shawn Michaels to win the thing and he infact did not.

Unfortunately for me, I missed the first 90 minutes or so of the show because DirecTV is run by a buncha Helen Kellers. Amazing that a company that has been around for 2 decades manages to make the same mistakes they made then. Is Michael Cole a VP? I was extremely pleased when Triple H got eliminated and wasn’t one of the final four like he always is, much less the winner. You know how much I hate that man and more importantly you all know how happy I am to see Edge back and what a huge Edge fan I am so yes, it was indeed a good night for me.

What about the rest of the Fight Gamers?

Let’s take a looksie!

Best: Royal Rumble match
Worst: Mickey vs Michelle

This was a really fun show. The undercard was solid if unspectacular. Taker and Mysterio both worked their asses off, and had a very good main event quality match. But the Rumble match itself is the sole reason anyone buys this show, and as far as I’m concerned: it delivered. I really liked how the match played out. For the first time in a long time, I am genuinely interested in what direction WWE will go from here. Between this show and the Smackdown preceding it, I’m beginning to get the impression that someone in that company does know what they are doing after all.

Best: Royal Rumble match
Worst: Orton vs. Seamus (not that it was overly bad)

Fun all the way. Nothing earth shattering awesome (aside from Punk’s run) but nothing close to bad. Really liked the booking – most WWE has interested me in ages.

Best Match: Royal Rumble match
Worst Match: Mickie James vs. Michelle McCool (not that it was really a match)

There was nothing bad on the undercard, though there was nothing earth shattering or excellently done either. Rey Mysterio and the Undertaker was fun, but the Undertaker didn’t really work all that hard, and I’m guessing it’s because he’s just torn up. I liked Randy Orton vs. Sheamus more than most because I thought it was building to something really good and then the finish just happened. The Royal Rumble was well-booked as usual. I think they’re getting predictable in how they’re booking it though. For the second time in three years, a “surprise” entrant won. And anyone who wasn’t a star was out before the next guy came in. I like it when a guy overachieves and ends up in the final four like Mr. Perfect several years ago, or even Kane recently. It makes the match less predictable.

We’ll see you at the Elimination Chamber~!
