Rapper DMX lacing up the MMA gloves

Published by Big D at 5:44 pm under Mixed Martial Arts,News

Thunder Promotions MMA is running a show on December 12th at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center. The show is headlined by Butter Bean vs. Tank Abbott in a battle of the fat, wing-eating, hard-hitters. I can’t wait.

What caught me off guard most despite the obvious freak-show main event (a fight that I REALLY wanna see) is that DMX is on the card, fighting in Eric Martinez a “Celebrity Fight”. Does anybody know who Eric Martinez is? (If so, please leave a comment)

Real name Earl Simmons, DMX gained his biggest fame in the late 90s with his multi platinum It’s Dark and Hell is Hot (review found here). He was one of the most popular rappers in the late 90s and early 00s and starred in numerous blockbuster films like Romeo Must Die and Cradle 2 The Grave. He’s long since had numerous personal issues and apparently wants to let it all out in the cage.

POSTER

I hope DMX doesn’t die.

Update from Derek Roman at 9:59PM about the identity of Eric Martinez from his imdb.com mini bio:

Eric Martinez is also the CEO of Powermoves Entertainment a fast rising record label out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Eric has also worked on a video for Tupac and been seen in several magazines such as Billboard, Urban Latino and Lowrider. This promising actor is on the rise and you will definitely be seeing more of him. Certainly Martinez has become a strong power force in the music and film industry.
