Thunder Promotions MMA is running a show on December 12th at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center. The show is headlined by Butter Bean vs. Tank Abbott in a battle of the fat, wing-eating, hard-hitters. I can’t wait.
What caught me off guard most despite the obvious freak-show main event (a fight that I REALLY wanna see) is that DMX is on the card, fighting in Eric Martinez a “Celebrity Fight”. Does anybody know who Eric Martinez is? (If so, please leave a comment) Continue Reading »
On the latest edition of FGB Radio, Big D and I talk the big boxing number for Floyd Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez, the UFC middleweight division, and the Chris Hero to WWE story in general, as well as internet reporting.
This is the main event from the first televised card promoted by Ricky Hatton. It’s a clash between two highly rated middleweights as Matthew Macklin (24-2) takes on Amin Asikainen (26-2) for the vacant European middleweight title. Continue Reading »
By the looks of it, it doesn’t seem that Dan Henderson vs. Anderson Silva will happen immediately next for whatever reason. Dana White says that there are three contenders deserving of a shot.
Who so you want to see face Silva?
- Vitor Belfort
- Dan Henderson
- Nate Marquardt

Before the fight, HBO is showing last weekend’s Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez one-sided fight.
Larry Merchant interviewed Chris Arreola and asked him why he would win. Arreola said it was because he trained to win. I’m sure someone has a joke ready for that one.
After the Mayweather/Marquez was over, they didn’t show the after fight shenanigans which is interesting, because I thought that was the most intriguing part of the night, when it came to building up something.
But they did talk about it when Lampley interviewed Mayweather. Mayweather did cut a promo on Shane where he said that Mosley walked away from fighting him twice. Lampley asked him about the weight issue and Mayweather said that anything over 140 is a middleweight fight and then apologized for the shenanigans in the ring. This dude just deviates completely from the questions. It’s pretty hilarious.
Just by the pre-fight package, it looks like Arreola and company are jumping into deep waters. But being that it’s Vitali, he probably has a puncher’s chance. If anything, it should be a very entertaining fight.
Chris Arreola vs. Vitali Klitschko
Klitschko is nearly four inches taller than Arreola.
R1
Arreola has some really good head movement and is working to get inside, but Klitschko is peppering him with a left hand to keep him at bay. He’s throwing an uppercut on the backend of his combination as well as a looping right hand. Arreola looked just a tad frustrated.
R2
The action picked up, but the round was sloppy at times. It looks like Arreola’s goal is to just pressure Klitschko and make him fight a fight that he doesn’t want to. Just like Arreola was frustrated in the first, Klitschko looked a bit frustrated by Arreola’s success in turning it into a bit of a brawl in the second round. Klitschko is definitely on his toes. Klitschko has won both rounds. Continue Reading »
It has not been reported yet on any major site but I have it on very good authority that ROH superstar Chris Hero has agreed in principle to sign with World Wrestling Entertainment. Hero is scheduled to face Eddie Kingston at tonight’s ROH show in New York City.
Hero has been one of the top independent workers for a little under a decade. He has worked main events for ROH, Chikara, CZW, PWG and won the 2007 Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup. He is another talent added to the list of ROH talents that WWE has swiped.
We will have more on this as the story breaks.
UPDATE 12:21AM Eastern: This story has now been confirmed by Power Slam Magazine and one other indy promoter.
UPDATE 02:33AM Eastern: Chris Hero states on his twitter that he has not signed yet but IS headed to “MSG”. Unsure of what that means. Another private source close to Hero informed me this evening that it was talked about jokingly but as far as he knew, WWE has not officially signed him yet.
UPDATE 02:38AM Eastern: Yet another source very close to Chris states that earlier tonight he was contacted and that Chris denied being signed. Again, we will keep you posted.
UPDATE 02:46AM Eastern:: The same source contacted me and explained that Hero has not signed YET but is under the radar. Will he sign? We will see.
Again, we will keep you posted on this story as we are also unsure of whether or not it is factual since there are various stories going around.
UFC 103 was an unusual card with some unusual circumstances. It achieved in showing us that guys like Paul Daley and Vitor Belfort can have big fights in the UFC and that guys like Frank Trigg and Mirko CroCop may have to hang it up. You can hear me and GG break it down even more detailed on last weekend’s edition of FGB Radio. Lets see what the FGB crew of titans had to say…
Cactus Jim Thumbs Up
Best Fight: Story/Foster
Worst Fight: Franklin/Belfort
There really wasn’t anything terrible on the card so I picked Franklin/Belfort as worst only because there was a complete lack of engagement and then one flurry by Belfort to end it. Rich was obviously finished, but the KO won’t make any highlight reels. There also wasn’t one fight in my mind that really stood head and shoulders above the rest. Daley was impressive in his win and I think despite some charges of early stoppage that the end was imminent and the outcome would have been unchanged. Koscheck looked good in his win, as did Griffin and Dos Santos. Overall, a fun card with lots of fights and lots of finishes.
Alan Thumbs Up
Best Fight: Tyson Griffin vs. Hermes Franca
Worst Fight: Emerson vs. Leg kicker man
Emerson’s fight was hard to watch, I was just screaming STOP KICKING HIM at Duans TV! Fun show overall. Lots of exciting (short) fights.
GG Thumbs in the middle
Best Fight: Tyson Griffin vs. Hermes Franca
Worst Fight: Rich Franklin vs. Vitor Belfort
I watched this on delay after first watching the Mayweather/Marquez live and let’s just say I made the right decision. This show definitely felt like a secondary show compared to the fight. The main event was a near farce because of how quickly Franklin went down. I also think Vitor was allowed to get in two shots to the back of the head, and I’m not saying you can do anything about it, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. I’m a big disappointed in Mirko Cro Cop, even though I expected him to win, and I’m also disappointed in how easily Frank Trigg went down. But big props to Josh Koscheck, Paul Daley, and Junior Dos Santos for stepping up large.
Kimbo thinks he’s a marked man in the house. He wants to prove himself. Roy Nelson wants Kimbo and thinks he can beat him.
Rampage says he sees a little bit of himself in Kimbo and wants to give him some things that helped him.
Rashad thinks that Roy Nelson makes a lot of excuses and goofs off a lot. One of Rashad’s coaches says he’s uncoachable and asks him if he wants to work his own corner and get knocked out by Andrei Arlovski again. Nelson agreed to listen and be coachable.
Rampage chooses Rashad’s number one pick James to fight against Wes Shivers. Rashad looks pretty happy.
James says real fighters don’t choose to fight. Fighting chooses them.
Rashad’s team went overtime with their training and Rampage said that he should’ve pulled down his pants and farted on them. He called it the “ghetto blaster”.
They play up Wes as a nice story, but as a Johnny come lately, while James is portrayed as a real fighter.
