Chuck Liddell, the over-hand right throwing, knockout artist, kill or be killed MMA star is going to trade in his MMA gloves for some dancing shoes.

According to ESPN.com, Liddell is one of 16 celebrities to dance the cha cha and fox trot this season.

Former football star Michael Irvin is the other sports headliner for the series. Athletes have fared well in the dancing competition.

The complete list of contestants includes singers Mya, Macy Gray and Aaron Carter; actresses Ashley Hamilton, Melissa Joan Hart and Debi Mazar; models Joanna Krupa and Kathy Ireland; reality stars Mark Dacascos and Kelly Osbourne; entertainer Donny Osmond; and former Republican Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

The season starts in September, and if I’m handicapping the show, I’d say Mya and Donny Osmond are the front runners. Irvin is a great athlete and I’m guessing has good rhythm. He also has the tenacity to work hard enough to pick up the dance moves. Where does Liddell fit? Well, he has pretty good footwork in the octagon and is simply brilliant at stopping takedowns, but I’m not sure how that transcends to the dance floor. Floyd Mayweather who has great footwork and is an awesome ring technician didn’t fare all that well. I’d say Chuck ends up somewhere in the middle.
