Video Vault – The Irony of R-Truth

Published by Big D under Pro Wrestling,TNA,Video,WWE

GG thinks that I use the word “irony” incorrectly a few times. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this seems to be quite an ironic situation (and it may end up that I’m not using the word right yet again).

So back in 2006, Ron Killings, better known as current WWE Smackdown Superstar R-Truth now, was a proud member of TNA. In fact, he was very proud. To the point where every week he was “rah rah TNA”, waving the flag for the company as if he were some sort of general going to war. Most of the time, interpromotional wars are laughable, specially when one company is ten times the size of the other, like with TNA and WWE.

For some reason, Truth had issues with John Cena. I’m not sure if it’s because he’s a “white rapper” or because WWE marketed a guy as a rapper/wrestler and maybe Truth felt that bit his gimmick. What’s ironic about that (there’s that word again) is that Truth was IN the WWE 2 years before Cena doing the rapper gimmick as K-Kwik. So Truth was hell bent on dissing the at-the-time WWE Champion John Cena repeatedly. This led to an incident at Charlotte Airport with Cena and Ron allegedly that almost came to fisticuffs and Ron – as expected – backed down.

Freddie Roach And Floyd Mayweather Sr. Talk Major Smack At Each Other

Published by GG under Boxing,News

Shout out to SC at Bad Left Hook for this one.

The full transcript is at Boxing Scene.

Q: Floyd, both you and Freddie were fighters in your day. Who was the better fighter between the two of you?

Mayweather: Ah, man. Come on. Quit asking me crazy questions. No, man. I most definitely was the better fighter than Freddie Roach. As a matter of fact, I’ve got a poster down at the gym where Freddie’s on my undercard.

Roach: You got a shot and ruined your career. Oh my God.

Q: Hey Freddie, what do you think about that?

Roach: Well, you know what, I tried really hard. I fought on TV a lot more than him. I was more popular than he was.

Mayweather: You were a bum.

Roach: You know, his brother was a great fighter but he lost to my fighter Marlon Sterling twice. He got his ass kicked twice. So how good was he? He was OK.

Mayweather: You weren’t OK. You were a bum.

Roach: So you think.

Mayweather: You got whooped so much, Freddie. Come on, Freddie.

Roach: You’re the expert. Hey Floyd, can I ask you a question?

Mayweather: Yes sir.

Roach: When I get presented the trainer of the year award I want youto present that to me this year, because that’s as close as you’ll get to it.

Mayweather: We’re gonna see about that, Freddie. We’ll see about that, Freddie.

Roach: I’d like for you to do that.

Mayweather: And what are you going to do when i win it, Freddie?

Roach: I’ve won it three times. You’ve never won it.

Mayweather: Yeah, what do you intend to do?

Roach: You’re not going to win it ever.

Mayweather: But we already know, Freddie. We already know about you.

Roach: OK.

Mayweather: And those awards. We already know about all that.

Roach: Three times. Three times.

Wow. If only they could get in the ring.

Starting Over… (Special Video Vault)

Starting Over…

Kazushi Sakuraba was the chosen one.

In Japan during the early years of PRIDE Fighting Championships, no star shined brighter than that of Kazushi Sakuraba. Sakuraba made his name as one of the big names from Takada’s UWFI pro wrestling promotion – a company that relied on realistic “shoot-style” bouts that were meant to look more realistic than New Japan or All Japan (many in fact thought they WERE shoots).

When Sakuraba entered the PRIDE ring, he became instantly famous as the very first home grown “pro wrestler” in the company to fully adapt to Mixed Martial Arts and become one of the most talented grapplers in the game. Besides that, his innovation to use never-before seen tactics to confuse opponents helped him score victories over Carlos Newton, Vitor Belfort, and every single member of the legendary Gracie Jiu-Jitsu family that he was pitted against. When he beat Royce Gracie after 90 grueling minutes – he became a hero.

But alas, while he had grown to that hero in eyes of the Japanese, he wasn’t really the best. Sakuraba’s arch rival in PRIDE other than the Gracies was a young, hungry, vicious fighter from Brazil named Wanderlei Silva. While most Brazillians were known for their expertise on the ground game, Silva was known for his explosiveness, rage, and powerful Muay Thai attacks. At PRIDE 13, Sakuraba was pummeled by Silva in about a minute and a half of the first round. The rematch quickly came around at PRIDE 17 and this time, it was to crown the first PRIDE Middleweight Champion. This time, Sakuraba actually made it to the end of the first round, but then realized he had a broken collarbone and the doctors stopped the fight and awarded it to Wanderlei Silva.

Wrestlemania – coming to TAMPA?!?!?

Published by Big D under News,Pro Wrestling,WWE

According to TBO newspaper, bids have begun for a Wrestlemania in 2011 and 2014 to happen in MY TOWN of Tampa, Florida. I remember hearing Wrestlemania 27 was already rumored heavily to be heading for Indianapolis, Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium. Hillsborough County is preparing it’s marketing bureau to make a bid for Wrestlemania to come to Tampa in the next four years. Me being a Tampa native – I’m quite excited.

You can find the rest of the story on the TBO site.

Video Vault – Who chokes harder? Fedor or a Snake?

Personally I wouldn’t want to be choked out by either.

This is from PRIDE/WAMMA Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko’s appearance on Sports Science. A huge plethora of stars from MMA including Randy Couture, Quinton Jackson, and Bas Rutton have appeared on the program. The studies found here are amazing and make you truly appreciate how frightening these folks are.
