DREAM.9 – Jose Canseco tries his hand at Mixed Martial Arts

Published by Big D under Dream,Mixed Martial Arts,News

Alan from our very own site first made me aware of this and I thought it was hilarious news.

On 5/26 at Heiwa’s DREAM.9 show from Yokohama Arena, in addition to featuring the second round of the Featherweight Grand Prix, will also have the first round of the SUPER HULK GRAND PRIX~!, a freakshow tournament with all freakshow fights featuring Bob Sapp, Gegard Mousasi, Hong-Man Choi, Sokoudjou, K-1/PRIDE veteran Mark Hunt, and Jose Canseco. Yes… JOSE CANSECO… from MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL. Amazing.

The Super Hulk Tournament Opening Round Fights will be:

- Gegard Mousasi vs. Mark Hunt
- Bob Sapp vs. Minowaman a.k.a. Ikuhisa “The Punk” Minowa
- Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou vs. “The Giant” Jan Nortje
- Hong Man Choi vs. Jose Canseco

Rounding out the card is Gesias “JZ” Calvancante against Tatsuya Kawajiri and Ronaldo Souza vs. Jason “Mayhem” Miller for the Dream Middleweight Championship.

This is why I love Japanese Mixed Martial Arts.

The Ultimate Fighter Season 9: US Vs. UK – Episode 5

Damarques says that Team USA is not really a team and they’re there for selfish reasons.

Team USA looks like they’re about to explode.

Michael Bisping picks Andre Winner to face Santino Defranco. Bisping says he won’t be able to hang with Winner.

Winner takes Bisping down in practice and the team goes crazy.

Defranco says that he tried out for the TV show twice before. He said that after the medicals for being on the show, Dana White called him to tell him he had a brain aneurysm and he thought he’d never fight again. He says that he was finally cleared to fight by his neurologist.

Are we having two fights or something? We’re only fifteen minutes in and the fight is already starting.

Andre Winner vs. Santino Defranco

It wasn’t much. They traded counter shots and missed punches until it went to the ground. Defranco looked like he was trying to set up an something with his legs, but other than wrapping his leg around Winner’s head, he didn’t have anything. Winner even screwed up and instead of pulling out of Defranco’s guard, he fell right back into it. But then he was able to posture up and rain down with punches for the stoppage.

Winner: Andre Winner by way of 1st round TKO

Jason Dent says he’s not used to being in social situations. Well, he’s going to have a successful life. He also said that one of the fighters was wearing a “wiggitty wiggitty wack” hat. Kriss Kross’ll make ya jump jump.

Brotherman’s Take On Manny Pacquiao Vs. Ricky Hatton

Published by GG under Boxing,Preview

I want to introduce you to Robert Lashley, aka Brotherman. I met Robert while writing at Epinions.com (which is the same place I met Big D). Robert is one of the greatest music writers I’ve ever seen, but he also has a love for boxing. And as you’ll see below, he’s just as good at writing about boxing.

He wrote a preview piece on the upcoming fight this weekend and I wanted to put it on the site. Robert will be writing more in the future for FGB. Show him some love.

By Robert Lashley

There will come a time when fight fans will miss Ricky Hatton. He’s been the decades’ most accomplished action fighter; the toughest of a generation of tough, lower class pugs who destroyed every stereotype about British boxing there ever was. Known for his relentless pressure style, he’s added enough of a defense to extend his career, and, at his boxing best, can pop out a short, stiff jab. His loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and stiff outing against Juan Lazcano caused more than a few people to wonder if he was finished, but a stay with a new trainer, the irrepressible Floyd Sr., resulted in a good victory against Paulie Malinaggi. One can easily imagine Hatton, in leaner years for the lighter weight divisions, being the pound for pound gatekeeper for the sport.

These are not leaner years for the lighter weight divisions, however, and Manny Pacquiao is the pound for pound gatekeeper at this moment; a fighter who also happens to be in the prime of his career. Originally a frenetic, hit-and-get-hit whirlwind, Pacquiao has progressed rapidly
in recent years; improving his footwork, modulating his ferocious aggression, and becoming more of a combination puncher as he has moved up in weight. Against David Diaz and Oscar De La Hoya, he looked less like the two dimensional fighter who lost his first fight against Erik Morales and more like Aaron Pryor in his prime.

This fight will depend on two things; how much Hatton has left at 140 and how much power and strength Pacquiao can carry as he moves up in weight. If the fight was at 135 or 130, it wouldn’t bode well for Hatton. The people who have beaten and given Manny the most trouble
have been great boxers, and Hatton will stand in front of him more than any of his recent opponents. Ricky, however, is a different, stronger fighter at 140. Manny, however, is a different, stronger fighter overall; too quick, too fast, and too much for the Hitman, no matter how tough he is.

PREDICTION: Pacquiao in a tough, yet convincing unanimous decision.

“Playboy” Buddy Rose found dead

Published by Big D under AWA,News,Pro Wrestling

Fight Game Blog is saddened to hear of the passing of Playboy Buddy Rose, real name Paul Perschmann.

According to F4W/Wrestlingobserver, he was found dead today by his wife at his home in Portland, Oregon. We still don’t know the cause but apparently he’s been having issues controlling his blood sugar. Rose was a known diabetic.

Buddy was known as one of the mid to top stars in the AWA and all along the northwest promotions. Rose also had a run in the WWF and will be most remembered as the masked “Excecutioner”, wrestling Tito Santana in the very first match of the very first Wrestlemania. Other than that, most current fans will remember his work on AWA (since ESPN has shown AWA Classics) with his tag team partner Doug Somers. He was involved in a blood feud in the mid 80s with the Midnight Rockers – Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty. This was one of the first major feuds of HBK’s career.

On behalf of myself, GG, Alan, Duan, and all who contribute to FGB, we send our condolences to the family of Mr. Perschmann.

2009 WWE Backlash – The Aftermath

Published by GG under Aftermath,Pro Wrestling,WWE

What did we at FGB think about Backlash?

Alan

Show overall rating: Thumbs Up

Best Match: Christian vs. Jack Swagger
Worst Match: Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Ted DiBiase Jr. vs. HHH, Shane McMahon, and Batista

The opener was my favourite thing on the show. But it wasn’t like it fell off the cliff or anything after that. Everything else was pretty good too. The only thing I wasn’t mad about was the 6 man tag (I don’t care about any of those guys anymore, even Randy who I LOVED three months ago). Steamboat/Y2J was fun, Kane/Punk was the best Kane single match in forever and Edge/Cena was a good brawl (although somewhat dragged down by the elaborate prop stuff that does nothing for me).

But yeah it’s all about Swagger tossing suckas around and Christian being the best babyface this side of El Generico.

Show overall rating: Thumbs Way Up

Best Match: Edge vs. John Cena
Worst Match: Kiss Cam (not necessarily a match)
