Quick Boxing Notes – Hatton/Pacquiao & Margarito/Mosley/Cotto

Published by GG at 7:52 pm under Boxing,News

Last week was UFC week and a couple of things happened in boxing that I didn’t get to mention.

A couple of weeks ago, Team Hatton pulled out of the possible fight between Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao was insisting that he receive a much higher split of the gate. Team Hatton called his bluff and pulled out, and then Pacquiao agreed to the fight after being called on his bluff. While other sites were reporting that the fight was back on once Pacquiao agreed, I wanted to wait until Hatton said he was back in, which was pretty much a formality. Last weekend, Dan Rafael of ESPN.com reported it as a done deal.

Now we get to see a true fight worthy of PPV status. The build up should be very good as well. Freddie Roach vs. Floyd Mayweather Sr. in the battle of the quotable trainers is going to be just as good as the fight itself.

Manny’s chances are slim and none. If he doesn’t run, we’ll get him in one.

Thanks to SC from Bad Left Hook for that Floyd Sr. quote. See what I mean?

Dave Larzelere, who writes for The Sporting News Blog, has a few thoughts on what Antonio Margarito’s suspension means for the rumored fight between he and Miguel Cotto in July. He mentions Andre Berto and Shane Mosley as possible candidates for the Cotto fight. If Cotto looks dominant in his fight in a couple weeks against Michael Jennings, I think he should skip Margarito and go straight for Mosley no matter what the suspension means.

SC also had another great article on why the Margarito hand wraps story is so damn important.

The Margarito incident is no joke. I wrote up a piece about that as well. The crazy thing is, how long was this going on without any trainers or commission members stepping in?

    Hey Jake,

First off, I’m going to come back to you for your prediction when we get Pac/Hatton.

Secondly, the CSAC is taking a lot of time to figure this out. Dan Rafael called them on it today.

Also, man, I have to get my pull up and chin up game straight. I’m working on it.

The whole situation is shady. What was in those wraps? Margarito knows and ain’t telling, that’s why he’s off to fight in Mexico under different rules and a different commission.

Cotto is my man though. Represents PR! Have you seen his ecko track jacket and pants? Super awesome.

I’m wearing mine to the MSG fight on February 21st. Jennings is going down!
