I had the privilege of receiving a last second invite by Stevie J (Angry Marks) to help him interview author of the fantastic book Total MMA, Jonathan Snowden.
Stevie J did a great job with running the interview while I was on my cell phone driving home. As you’ll be able to tell, both Stevie and I read the book cover to cover and both enjoyed it thoroughly. Snowden was a great guest and answered everything we threw at him.
I know that I usually talk about Raw on here, but I wanted to start this off by talking about how the ball continues to be dropped in the Raw main event angle between Triple H and Randy Orton. When I first figured out that this is where they were going, I wasn’t too enthralled, but I still figured they’d go all out. But last Friday, they just had Triple H admit that Vince was his father in law, Shane was his brother in law, and Steph was the mother of his children. That’s all. Huh? Where was Orton telling the world that HHH was a liar and asking why he hid his marriage to Stephanie? Where was HHH’s promo saying that he felt that since Steph was a McMahon and someone who is in a managerial position, he didn’t want the world to know? Oh well, I guess the storytelling part of wrestling is just passe. Instead, we just get admissions. Let’s move from A-Z instead of A-B.
Fast forward to Monday and I still don’t really like the angle. HHH chased Legacy around with a sledge hammer and just showed that A) he can’t run and B) he’d be a terrible baseball player. So far, it’s been a waste.
As for the other main event angle, I think they took a step backwards. Last week, John Cena told Edge that he was going to get him. That was all. He was serious. This week, he’s back to telling jokes about Vickie, Big Show, and Edge. I guess they forgot about last week.
Bobby “The Brain” Heenan was one of the funniest and most outlandish personalities in the history of the business. He used to manage one Red Rooster Terry Taylor, but they had a falling out and Rooster left the nest, so to speak. Terry Taylor then disrespected the Brain on WWF Prime Time Wrestling.
Nobody… disrespects the Brain…
Little side tidbit – this was the origin of Steve Lombardi’s transformation into the Brooklyn Brawler.
Needless to say, his record didn’t improve by much.
Into a new year with Dragon Gate, and there are many stories at play.
-Naruki Doi is the new Open The Dream Gate Champion, ending the near 6 month reign of Shingo.
-CIMA was choked into retirement by the man quickly becoming the hottest Dragon Gate heel in several years, YAMATO.
-Long standing, all star babyface faction, Typhoon were forced to dispand. Where will the members end up?
-A new unit has formed, led by Shingo. Akira Tozawa and Taku Iwasa are the other members.
-Top heel unit Real Hazard have been having problems, with GAMMA and Kanda at the centre of things.
-The Twin Gate and Triangle Gate titles have gained much needed stability with the team of YAMAKong and the trio of Mochizuki, Fujii and Kishiwada both in the midst of dominant reigns.
With that we move onto the first Infinity of the year.
