UFC Primetime: St. Pierre/Penn – Episode One

The UFC is following in HBO Boxing’s footsteps with a multi-part preview show to their big main event at UFC 94. UFC Primetime: St. Pierre/Penn is going to be three parts and promises to go more in depth then their “Countdown” specials usually do. I hate that I don’t have SpikeTV in HD.

At the top of the show, B.J. Penn, says that he’s ready to go to the death. Ya, it sounds good. He says that he’s going to try to kill Georges.

Georges says there is no pleasure in life, just a relief in pain. He says he trains in the fear that his opponent is training harder than he is. GSP also trains in the boxing gym with a specialized boxing coach two days a week in addition to his MMA training.

They show the first match at UFC 58, in which GSP beat B.J. in a three round decision. B.J. says that GSP was so battered after the first round that he walked back towards the wrong corner. GSP out-wrestled him to win the last two rounds. B.J. says the only pain he had from that fight was the pain in his hands from hitting GSP and says he can’t believe he lost. Well, he lost because GSP was in much better condition and was able to change game plans.

B.J. says that Georges is a quitter and a front runner. He says that’s how he’s going to beat him. He’s going to make him quit. He says he never thought he’d ever lose a fight in his life. Dana White says that B.J. was partying too much to be as great as he should’ve been. B.J.’s mom says that he always wanted to be the best. Brother JD said that B.J. was the baddest guy in town without any formal training. It was just his will to win. He says that his training regiment used to be easy. Dana White says he called him to tell him to stop wasting his career and B.J. stepped his training game up.

B.J. decides to slow down the training for about five days in order to peak on the 31st. Something tells me that’s not the greatest idea.

For some reason, the show comes back from commercial with a song sounding eerily similar to Chris Benoit’s WWE theme song. That was weird. GSP says that B.J. came from money and he didn’t, and that’s why he’s not a quitter. He has to work for everything. They show GSP rubba dubbin’ in the club, but he says he doesn’t take drugs or drink alcohol. I guess he’s the anti-Chuck.

B.J. is off his training and won’t take Dana’s calls. Dana calls JD and JD lies to him and says that B.J. isn’t taking any days off. Dana pretty much figures he’s being BS’d and says that B.J. has a lot of yes men and is on his own schedule. Dana tells him to get his ass back in the gym. Only, he didn’t say it that nicely.
