The Contender Season 4 – Episode 5
Neither Deon nor Tommy Brooks are particularly satisfied with the fight last week. Despite winning, Deon has injured his hand, and the feeling in the gold team is that he made things hard for himself.
Darnell is caught sneaking into the kitchen by John Bray. He is still way over weight, and is eating everything in sight – fried foods, pizza etc. It’s almost reminiscent of Gabe Ruediger on the ultimate fighter.
Ryan is back sparring after getting his stitches out, and feels he’s ready to go. But the eye begins to swell a little, and the coaches call an early halt to the session.
Hino is indicating that he won’t call out Ryan because he’s hurt, and that he would rather fight Darnell instead because it would be the tougher fight. He knows well that Darnell is struggling at the weight. Darnell feels that no one on the gold team has the guts to challenge him.
It’s time for Deon to pick his place in the second round. He chooses the third bracket which is currently empty. He says that he didn’t want to fight Felix this early, and wants a little more time to prepare.
Back in their respective locker rooms, the teams discuss the next fight. The blue team feel that Ryan or Darnell will be called out. They put Darnell over as a massive puncher, and John Bray feels that he can turn things back in their favour.
They had guessed right, as the gold team is giving Hino the opportunity to pick between Darnell and Ryan. He picks Ryan.
Darnell is shown working off the weight. Hino feels that he is going to fade quickly in the fight. Darnell weighs in right on the limit.
Darnell Wilson (23-7-3) vs. Ehinomen “Hino†Ehikhamenor (12-3)
Darnell is loading up on his punches, but Hino is comfortably out boxing him. Hino caught him lunging in and knocked him to the canvas. I don’t think he was really hurt, but this is looking bad for Darnell.
Darnell is still looking for the big shot, but came nowhere close to landing it.
The third round was better for Darnell. The fight broke down into a brawl, and he was finally able to land a few shots.
Hino started to box a bit more, and was able to make Darnell miss in the forth. Before the last round Hino started back talking Tommy Brooks in the corner.
Darnell went for broke in the final round, but still was never able to land. Hino did a lot of posing, but still stayed out of trouble. He should have taken this one comfortably.
Winner: Ehinomen “Hino†Ehikhamenor (50-45, 40-44, 50-44)
Darnell feels he couldn’t perform to the best of his ability because he was under prepared. He was feeling the effects of the weight loss and couldn’t implement his game plan as a result. He vows that he will fight his way back into the cruiserweight title picture.

Wait, was this a double episode week? And I missed it? I saw an extra show on my DVR but I thought it was a repeat.
This was this weeks episode, it’s first run was broadcast Wednesday night.
Show’s you how far behind I’ve been with TV.
