Raw Thoughts – Shane?
I’m going to try and write up my Raw thoughts after the shows, at least up until Wrestlemania.
Remember when Stone Cold Steve Austin was beating up Vince McMahon at least once or twice a month? And remember when he came up with a doctor’s note to explain why he was beating up Vince McMahon? Remember, he told Steph that it wasn’t his fault, but he just had an aggressive disorder? No, you don’t? That’s because it never happened! And remember when he threatened to sue the WWF when they tried to take him out of the Wrestlemania XV title match? No? Because it never happened! I understand that they’re trying to keep Randy Orton heel, but this was a terrible way to do it. I actually thought it’d be a much better idea to make Orton re-win his Mania title shot in the Elimination Chamber, but it looks like the belt is going to be defended in the chamber, which doesn’t make all that much sense to me. I thought the appeal of last year’s No Way Out PPV was that the Elimination Chamber matches directly influenced Wrestlemania. Unless something changes, it doesn’t seem to be that way except if the belt changes hands, which would seem odd to do six weeks before Wrestlemania.
Maybe the only good part about Raw last night was Chris Jericho’s promo about Mickey Rourke. By the looks of it, Ric Flair may be apart of the angle which is awesome. Though I’m not sure we’ll get the Flair/Jericho payoff that having Flair in the angle might necessitate, but we’ll get there when we get there. I think having Flair will definitely help the match get over live with the crowd because let’s face it, there’s no way Rourke is going to be able have a good match. Jericho is probably the right guy to carry him, but still, he’s not a magician. Rourke is 56 years old and he walks like he can barely move. I can’t imagine him moving in the ring. But I still think the angle is money.
Based on last night, where does HBK/JBL go? I’m not too sure. The only way I saw this being completely logical was if HBK made his money, asked for forgiveness, and then beat the tar out of JBL. We might eventually get there, but without there being a payoff for HBK, he would’ve wasted all of his time working for a guy to then turn on him and still be broke. If that’s the finale, I’m going to be bummed out.
Raw ended in the absolutely worst fashion possible. If Randy Orton and Legacy were ever supposed to be taken seriously, Shane McMahon sure put a dent in that last night. And we’re not even talking about John Cena or Triple H. These are guys that Orton could possibly feud with. We’re talking about Shane McMahon who isn’t a worker, isn’t going to have a match at Wrestlemania (unless there are plans I haven’t heard about), and who has gray hair. If they were going to do the angle where people try to get revenge for Vince, Shane was rightfully the first person who should’ve come out. But then he should’ve gotten his ass handed to him. And then someone else comes out to get revenge for Vince until whoever faces Orton at Wrestlemania comes out to really take care of business. As it is now, they hurt Orton, hurt Legacy, and hurt Shane because he was so winded after those few minutes that he looked like a really old man. And then he punched poor Kofi for no reason.
They need to do some major work for next week’s show because after the Royal Rumble, I thought they were pretty hot. They just poured cold water all over it last night.
Always goes from hot to ice.
Dammit!
They have a lot of time. They just can’t keep wasting it.
