The Ultimate Fighter Season 8 Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir – Episode 6

Published by GG at 11:54 pm under Mixed Martial Arts,TV Shows,The Ultimate Fighter,UFC

We are promised a Junie Browning fight, which should be pretty good.

Frank Mir asks Rolando Delgado about his black belt in jiu-jitsu. Most of Team Mir thinks he’s bullshitting.

Junie says he bought his black belt from McDonalds.

Mir says that he had to get his black belt by submitting Tim Sylvia.

Junie tells Rolando that if he gets out of the first round, he’ll tell Dana to give the fight to Rolando. Somewhere, I missed that this fight was definitely taking place.

Frank Mir makes it official. Junie throws a black belt at Delgado and Delgado playfully wraps it around him. Then Junie pushes him, puts the belt down and spits on it. Big Nog is never going to do this show ever again. Big Nog says he does it for attention. Anderson Silva says Junie did it because he was scared of Delgado and then tells him to kick his ass. Can you imagine being on a team with Big Nog and Anderson Silva?

The old man boxing coach schools Delgado in the art of boxing, like a real life Mick from Rocky with the gravelly voice.

Junie has one hour to cut two pounds as he’s over at the weigh in and Mir is losing his patience. He did cut it but looks like he’s in some tough shape.

Junie Browning vs. Rolando Delgado

Delgado has about 6 inches on Browning and a big reach advantage.

They both come out swinging though Delgado definitely wants to keep his distance. Browning dropped him with a low kick that caught him off balance, but he let him back up. Delgado hit him with a knee and is having no problems using his reach to his advantage. Delgado is an awkward striker in both the way he throws punches and how he moves around the cage. But his length is definitely giving Browning issues. Delgado goes for the takedown and Browning stuffs him and ends up on top. But he lets him back up. Browning gives him his face and Delgado punches him. Near the end of the round, Delgado takes four nasty punches to the face. Delgado probably won about 3 1/2 minutes of the round, but he never hurt Browning. In the last part of the round, Browning definitely hurt him.

Delgado is fighting as if he’s scared to get hit again and keeps trying for the takedowns. He’s psychologically scared now. Delgado needs to be moving and staying out of range, but he’s barely moving. Both guys are pretty tired and it’s this odd striking battle. The only thing keeping Delgado from getting killed is his height and reach advantage. He knocks Delgado down with a right hand, but doesn’t stay down with him and lets him back up. I thought it was over. You have to give Delgado credit for staying in there.

They’re going to a third round, which means both guys were given a round.

Browning made a terrible decision in letting Delgado stay on his back for a minute. Browning couldn’t decide whether to let him up or kick his legs. I wonder if it hurts him. Delgado is definitely game in the third and there’s no real sure winner. If I had to, I’d probably give it to Browning, just because of damage, but really, it could be Delgado’s fight.

Winner: Junie Browning by split decision

Junie apologized to Big Nog for the black belt spitting. Mir tried to pass it off as the UFC’s fault.

If Delgado can learn how to strike a bit better, he could be decent just because of his length. He probably won’t have any power because he’s so gangly, but as a point striker, he could be decent.

Next week they show that the pranks get more personal.
