The Ultimate Fighter Season 8 Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir – Episode 2

Published by GG at 12:13 am under Mixed Martial Arts,TV Shows,The Ultimate Fighter,UFC

Week two means more fights. Let’s get it on.

Wesley Murch, who is a lightweight out of the UK and also has a star shaved into his haircut, is taking on John Polakowski. Polakowski is a hugger.

Wesley Murch vs. John Polakowski

John P. looks quicker, but Murch seems stronger in the clinch. Murch went for a heel hook while Frank Mir was screaming at him not to, and then when he tried it, he said, “Well you better get it.” That’s Coach Mir for you. He didn’t get it by the way. Big Nog probably won’t really be impressive until he starts beating ass in training as he’s not one for sound bites. Murch hurt his shin and at the end of the first round was grimacing in pain.

He goes out for the second round, even though it seemed that he wouldn’t be able to. He went for a flying knee, came down on his feet and seemed to be in immense pain. He turtled and it was stopped.

Winner: John Polakowski by way of 2nd round TKO.

Big Nog said he liked to hug too. Mir didn’t seem so comfortable.

Light heavyweight Shane Primm says he’s going to be here for a long time. He’s fighting Sean O’Connell who says that Forrest Griffin is his favorite.

Shane Primm vs. Sean O’Connell

Terrible technical first round. Primm kept going for the kimura but didn’t know what to do otherwise as he had O’Connell in side control twice and did nothing. Also had what looked like a guillotine, but seemed clueless. Finally tapped O’Connell with a rear naked choke.

Winner: Shane Primm by way of 1st round submission.

Ido Pariente, from Israel, is next with a lightweight fight against Efrain Escudero.

Ido Pariente vs. Efrain Escudero

Escudero looked really good. He was two steps ahead of Pariente for the entire fight. He had a guillotine and maneuvered into a rear naked choke for the win.

Winner: Efrain Escudero by way of 1st round submission

Ryan Lopez, who looks huge for light heavyweight, says he’s a bounty hunter. He faces Tom Lawlor who has one of the wackiest hair dos of all time.

Ryan Lopez vs. Tom Lawlor

Lawlor looked to be giving up at least 15 pounds. He immediately took Lopez down, got his back, and sunk in the choke.

Winner: Tom Lawlor by way of 1st round submission

Roli Delgado vs. George Roop

Mir said that both guys were some of the tallest 155 pounders he’d ever seen. Mir mentioned that he talked Roop out of a choke, which made him very coachable. The fight was only in clips.

Winner: George Roop by way of decision

They next show Kyle Kingsbury against Ryan Bader in clip form. Big Nog said that Bader had “eyes of tiger”. Bader won with an arm triangle in the second round.

Charles Diaz vs. Shane Nelson is also shown in clip form. Nelson looked super busy and didn’t seem to take a breath. He just motored around the cage and won a decision.

Eliot Marshall vs. Karn Grigoryan

Grigoryan looked bigger, faster, and stronger but somehow Marshall was able to go from being on the bottom to being on top and in the mount position very quickly. He seemed to be able to win the first round, with most of the time being on the bottom.

In the second round, Marshall was beating Grigoryan to the punch and Grigoryan didn’t seem to want to stand as much. He got on top and in side control and was throwing knees and punches down.

Looks like there’s going to be a third round which means they each won a round, so maybe I was wrong about the first round.

Marshall was on top of him and bloodied him, but Grigoryan won the third round and the fight. Dana White and Frank Mir thought Marshall won it. Big Nog thought Grigoryan won. I thought Marshall won.

Winner: Karn Grigoryan by way of split decision

Dana says that Antawin Brit broke his hand and it will take 6-8 weeks to heel and thus he has to go home. Thus, Eliot Marshall is back on the show.

Next week, the guys are in the house. They tease injuries being a main factor in this season as well as some nasty hijinx including one guy punching another in the face while in the bathroom.
